WRITER POV:
Kanak reached her home at night. She knew her grandma would be worried for her. Kanak was not staying with her parents because her father was overprotective. He didn't even allow her to study further. He knew he had many enemies, so he sent Kanak to her grandma. They lived in the same city but didn't visit each other. He didn't want his enemies to know about his daughter.
"Sorry, grandma, I was late because of traffic tha na. You know na, city ka traffic kitna hota hai!"
"Okay, okay, go! Stop your sweet talks and go freshen up. I sent your dinner to your room!"
"Thanks, Grandma. You're the best." She couldn't tell her about the incident. She didn't want to give her more tension.
A knock came at Kanak's room.
"Come in."
"Aree Grandma, why did you come? Kisi house helper ko bhej diya hota! Aapne kyun takleef ki?"
Kanak's grandma fed her with her hands. Her grandma fulfilled the responsibility of her parents, giving her the love she wanted.
"Kanak, your father called today. He wants you to stop going to college for one month because elections are coming, and he doesn't want anything to happen to you."
"No, Grandma, I won't stop my college. You know finals are coming. I have to submit my assignment or I'll fail. My whole year's hard work will go to waste." Kanak got tears in her eyes. "Papa never understands me. He always makes decisions without thinking about my happiness. He never loved me. I never got love from my parents. He's always busy in his politics. He never considers my feelings. I won't stop my college. Why me, Grandma? Why don't I get love like other children?"
"No, bacha, it's not like that. He's worried for you. He loves you so much. Your parents love you, just the way they love is different. Okay, stop crying bacha. Now sleep. We'll think about it tomorrow."
Kanak knew her grandma wouldn't let her go to college, because she always followed her father's orders. So, she got up earlier in the morning and left for college. She took a bus to the college. The college was far from the bus stand, so she decided to walk rather than take a rickshaw.
The college was just 5 minutes away when a black van stopped in her way.
She tried to go around the side of the van.
But...
A few men came out of the van, in black, fully-covered attire.
She took a step back to run away, but before she could, they held her by the shoulder.
"Leave me! Who are you? Where are you taking me? Leave me! Someone please help me! Help me!" It was early in the morning, so the road was empty.
They pulled her inside the van and shut the door.
"Leave me, please! What did I do to you? Please leave me!"
"Give me the sedative," one man said to another. He injected something into Kanak's arm. She fell unconscious.
"Now leave her shoulder."
"Boss, why don't we enjoy her?"
"Shut up!"
"Why are you getting angry, boss? You enjoy her first, then we..." He looked at Kanak lustfully.
Vikram grabbed his throat in a tight grip.
"If you speak more rubbish, I'll cut your throat. If I see your eyes looking at her again, I'll make you fucking blind!"
"Sorry, boss! Leave me, I can't breathe!" his man pleaded.
Midway, Vikram stopped the van. He got out.
"You three—get out of the van. Even the driver too."
He sat in the driver's seat and started the van.
"Now go from here to the Malik mansion. You have work there."
"But boss, where are you taking her? Malik saheb ne toh isse old building mein le jaane ko kaha tha..."
VIKRAM TOOK OUT HIS GUN.
"Do you all go by yourself or should I send you to hell?"
"No boss, we're going!"
Vikram took Kanak to his house. It was far from the city, near a forest, on barren land. No transport. No humans. Nothing.
He carried the unconscious Kanak to an underground room in his house. No sunlight could reach the room. There were some old broken chairs, a stinky, dirty room, an old mattress, and a pot of water—that was all.
He placed Kanak on the dirty old mattress, locked the door, and came out of the room.
He called:
"Kaam ho gaya, Sarkar."
"Shabash, bacche." He laughed evilly. "Now do one thing for me—ruin her and send me the pictures by night. So I can send them to her father. Tell him who's in power!"
He cut the call without listening to Vikram's reply.
Vikram unlocked the door and came inside. He removed his jacket...
