Chapter Fifty Four: In A Blink Of An Eye

"Nick?"

He heard his name being called. The voice calling him familiar.

"Nick?"

Feigning sleep, he waited, wanting to hear her say his name again, just to be sure it was her.

Soon he felt warm lips brush against his collar bone, before touching his neck, and then those soft lips pressed against his own.

Opening his eyes, he saw her leaning over him from her place on his bed. They were in his room, back at the castle.

"Lex?"

"Finally decided to wake up, hmm?"

Her eyes sparkled, as she looked at him. When had he returned to the castle? He wondered, not sure what was going on.

"What am I doing here?" He asked Alexandra.

"You've been home for a while, Nick. It's been months since you returned."

Try as he might, he couldn't remember coming back to the castle. Nicholas tried to think about the last place he had been, and each time he remembered being in a drafty old house in the forest. The Oracle's house. Pushing the thoughts away as he felt her fingers entwine with his, he decided to continue to question Alexandra.

"What happened to the war with David?"

A smile flittered across her face, as he stared. It had been months since he had seen her, and his eyes couldn't get their fill of her.

"You said Ixia found him before he could launch the assault. She stopped him."

"Oh..." He said, dumbfound. He had never thought of Ixia as the type to meddle in affairs that didn't concern her. She had never even given him so much as an inkling that she would interfere and save Seraphine from David's hands.

"Now, you were going to tell me about the tasks and errands she made you run. What did you bring her?" Alexandra asked with interest. A little too much interest, Nicholas thought, as an alarm went off in his mind.

Ignoring it at first, he smiled.

"I thought I would have already told you."

"You didn't. You didn't even tell me why you left." That was when the second alarm went off.

"I thought you already knew." He said carefully. The night before he left, she had unknowingly guessed the exact reason he was leaving. Although if he thought about it, it had been the obvious reason.

"You said you would tell me when you came back."
