Chapter Twenty Six: This Is Where My Heart Takes Over

"So, I was thinking maybe we could go to the Ice Festival...together?" Alexandra asked, hesitantly, sitting on her bed cross-legged with Nicholas.

The two of them had been trying to make sure they would get the most out of the remaining few days in the almost empty castle. Having told Mark and Valek where she had been creeping off to at night, she had been surprised when they had not chastised her. 'As long as you two are safe and sound, I have no problem...' Mark said, as Valek stared her down. Alexandra had known that there was a caveat in the guard's words. 'Provided you leave after we do rounds, and are in your own bed afterwards.' She had agreed knowing it was best to give them some semblance of control...hoping it would keep them off her and Nicholas' back.

"Really? Did you ask Mark and Valek?" Nicholas grinned, laying down on the bed, his hands crossed behind his head.

Laying down beside him, she smiled. It was good that he understood what entailed with their relationship, another person may not have been so kind.

"I will...but think about it...there'll be huge crowds, not a lot of people will notice us if we dress normally."

"Or, they'll catch us right away because of Mark and Valek."

"Valek will stay at the castle, if we go out. Mark is less familiar since he's usually on my case in the castle."

"Okay, sure if your amazing guards allow it; we'll go together to the Ice Festival."

Snickering, she moved closer to kiss him.

"You know they can't hear you flattering them."

"Who knows...those two have quite the ear...they would probably know even if I whispered it." She laughed as he said this. It was true both Mark and Valek had a knack for getting information...and eavesdropping.

"It'll be our first time outside of the castle together." She thought out loud. The New Year had brought with it so many firsts, she was having a hard time keeping track of all of them.

"I guess it will. It'll also be the first time in a few years since I've been to the festivals."

"Don't worry, I'll show you the best exhibits." Alexandra patted, his arm.

"Thanks, Lex." He said, kissing her deeply. Alexandra soon found herself weaving her fingers through his hair, pulling him closer.

Tension between them started to rise, she could feel her nerves fray as they continued to kiss. His breath on her neck, she couldn't think straight. She had noticed lately, how quickly things were heating up between them. The sound of their heavy breathing seemed to spur both of them on, Alexandra moved over him, her long auburn hair had been loose, the tumbling waves falling like curtains.

It wasn't long before Nicholas had rolled her onto her back, leaning over her, she could see the storm in his grey eyes, as she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him close. Soon, his kisses were trailing down her neck, the heat and electricity becoming unbearable between them.

As his lips touched her skin once more, a knock sounded on the door; the two of them freezing.

"Nick...Alex...curfew." Valek's voice sounded from the other side of the door.

After a moment of silence, Nicholas looked down at her, apologetically.

"I should go...before he decides to come in."

Sighing, Alexandra kissed Nicholas one last time.

"I guess so..." She agreed, knowing that would be a difficult conversation to have. Letting him go, they both got off the bed, straightening their clothes, and making sure nothing was off about their appearance, so as to not worry her guards.
