It had started that morning.
Y/n and Connor were living together, and both worked at the Detroit Police Department. They were going to work at the same time, but Connor was getting frustrated because they were running late.
"Calm down, Connor. Hank's literally hours late to his shift some days." She joked, getting her stuff together and then locking the door behind them.
"I have work to do, Y/n." Connor replied, a little abruptly, which made her frown as they got into the car.
"You do it five times faster than me, I'm sure you'll have time." She spoke, starting up the engine and driving, both of them in silence.
They were usually happier, but this morning Connor just seemed very easily irritated.
They got to the station, and Connor walked ahead of her, until he reached his desk.
"I'll see you later?" She said, hoping for a quick kiss before leaving. But Connor just nodded and looked at his monitor.
Y/n mumbled, "Whatever." And stormed away to her desk, which was opposite Gavin's.
"Android giving you trouble?" He asked, leaning on his palm.
"Nope, what cases have we got today?" She asked, trying to forget what happened and focus on work.
Later that day, she and Gavin were in the lunch room, laughing at something when Connor came in, probably getting Hank a coffee.
Y/n glanced at Connor but carried on talking to Gavin, she thought Connor clearly needed some space from her today.
As the humans continued talking, loud sounds came from the corner, and she looked to see Connor with a flashing red LED.
"I'll let you deal with him." Gavin said, walking away to speak to Chris.
She stood up and walked over to him, watching as his LED still stayed on red.
"Connor, are you alright?" She asked, seeing his clenched fists.
"I'm fine." He replied with gritted teeth, taking the cup of hot coffee and turning to her.
"But you're clearly not. Just talk to me." She said, and Connor looked down at her.
"There's nothing to talk about." He spoke, and she rolled her eyes.
"There clearly is, but we'll just talk at home, obviously you need to calm down first." She said, and walked away quickly to her desk.
When it was time to leave, they walked to the car in silence, yet again.
Y/n got into the drivers seat, ignited the engine, starting the drive home.
"So, what's on your mind?" She asked, glancing at Connor before looking at the road.
"I just feel like we're not seeing eye to eye lately." Connor answered, his tone was very blunt.
"Connor, couples have disagreements, it's normal." She replied, but Connor shook his head.
"I've been doing some research, we should not be arguing this much, Y/n." He told her.
"So what's your conclusion?" She asked, feeling her heart rate quicken.
"That perhaps we're not meant to be."
Those words really did just make her shut down.
She swallowed and didn't say anything, until she pulled into a lay-by. She switched the car off and turned to look at him.
"What are you trying to say?" She asked, and Connor turned to look at her.
"This is not my fault." He answered.
"So it's mine?" She looked at him, her face showing her disbelief.
"You clearly enjoy Gavin's company, you clearly don't care about my feelings at all. You do not take me into consideration at all." He replied, and she scoffed.
"Are you fucking kidding me? All this is because what? You're jealous? And how dare you say I don't care about you, I've done so much for you." She defended herself, feeling herself get overwhelmed with anger.
"I'm not jealous." He seethed, but his LED turned a dark red.
"You sure about that? Gavin is just a friend. What, do you think I'm going to fuck him behind your back, I'm not that kind of person!" She cried out and Connor frowned.
He scoffed underneath his breath and looked away, shaking her head.
Y/n had had enough.
"You know what, maybe you're right. Maybe we're not meant to be." She finally said, and Connor's head turned suddenly to look at her.
"Y/n-"
"No, clearly you don't trust me. Go find someone else that will value you more than I did, and when you don't, do not come crawling back to me. We're done." She breathed heavily, and Connor's eyes darted around her face.
"I'll drive us home, but then you can pack up your stuff and go to Hank's or something." She added, turning on the engine and started driving until they got home.
She walked into her house and heard Connor upstairs, packing the things he owned.
She would not cry yet.
He then came downstairs, his LED a whirling yellow.
"I called Hank, he said I can stay with him." He told her and she nodded, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Good." She then made to turn away.
"I love you, sweetheart." He said, and she turned to see regret in his eyes.
"And I loved you, but clearly it wasn't good enough." She replied, and Connor's LED was a frozen red as he turned and walked out the door.
When he closed it behind him, silence followed and stayed.
She was all alone.
She walked up to the window and watched as he walked down the front pathway, his shoulders hunched.
Tears sprang to her eyes and she allowed herself to cry as she watched Connor walk away.
