March 23, 1986
Max snapped out of her daze, looking at me, confused but also terrified. Before I could say anything Max, shoots away from the table, grabbing her flashlight and running out of the room.
"Max?! Where are you going?" I yelled out as I ran after her. I could hear Steve and Dustin also running after us.
"Dustin! Tell Robin to hurry." I shouted not looking back at the boys, my full focus on Max.
Just as Dustin began to call out for Robin, Max stops. I watched behind her as she shined her light on the wall. There was nothing on the wall.
"Max?" I whispered as I slowly walked over to her, "What's going on?"
"Do you see it?"
"See what?"
"The grandfather clock. It was right here." Max stared numbly at the wall.
I turn around as I heard footsteps running towards us. I stepped away from Max and closer to the noise.
"Whose there?" I said as my hands began to heat up.
"AJ! It's me!" Robin yelled out in response as she turned the corner. I immediately put my hands down and walked back to Max.
"It was here." Max said again as Nancy and Robin caught up. "Right here."
"A grandfather clock?" I asked just to make sure I understood what Max saw.
"It was so real." I could see a tear falling down Max's face. My heart clenched. "And then, when I got closer, suddenly I just... I woke up."
"It was like she was in a trance or something." I turned to look at Dustin, my heart falling in my stomach, "Exactly what Eddie said happened to Chrissy."
I shake my head in denial. There's no way that Max...that my Max experienced what Fred and Chrissy did. There's no way. I couldn't allow that. I didn't want to allow that. Max turned back around so I could see her face, and I knew something was wrong.
"That's not even the bad part." Max said while staring at me. I wanted to throw up.
"Max... What do you mean?" I whispered as I took a step closer to her.
"Follow me." Max whispered as she pushed past the group.
"Lia?" Steve said shaking me. I ripped my focus off the wall and over to Steve.
"Steve ... I can't..." I went to speak but it was like my voice disappeared.
"I know. Lia, I know." Steve pulled me into a hug. But I didn't cry, it was like I was numb. "Let's go see what Max wanted to tell us."
Steve pulled me into the room, I see Max standing behind the desk with everyone surrounding it.
"Fred and Chrissy, they both came to Miss Kelley for help." Steve and I walked over to the desk as Max talked.
