Part Eighty - One

Start from the beginning

"Perfect, thank you." Sarah answered with a smile, she left the kids playing in the waiting room as she went to tell Tommy, but stopped at the glass door when she saw him bent over retching and coughing.

"Tommy?" She called out nervously as she opened the door.

"Yeah?" He answered wiping his mouth and hoping she hadn't seen him empty his stomach.

"It was all good. Everything was clear."

"That is a relief. That's a relief." He nodded.

"Yeah." Sarah answered quietly.

"Driver's bringing the car round." He told her.

She wanted to ask if he was ok, but they were interrupted from the sound of Ruby and Charlie banging on the window and waving at them. Tommy waved back with a smile but sarah dragged him away out of the view from the children.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him deeply, taking him off guard before he relaxed, with his hands moving down to her waist until she unexpectedly pulled away.

"When did you last sleep?" She asked holding his face.

"Not much since we last spoke on the phone." He answered casually.

"Well, now you know Ruby's all clear, you can sleep." Sarahs tone wasn't saying it to reassure him, she was telling him that he needed to sleep, and he was aware of that.

"Yeah." Tommy rubbed his forehead, "Sarah, I am very happy that Ruby's results are clear."

Tommy's response translated to, I still won't sleep because I'm stubborn and convinced gypsy magic is coming for my family. Rolling her eyes she stepped away from him as he carried on speaking as if she hadn't just told him that Ruby was safe.

"I will speak to Johnny and I will speak to Esmeralda."

Sarah cut off whatever he was going to say, "We could be on holiday. We could be up a mountain in America. The children wanted to have Christmas in America."

"That wouldn't have been possible. The man I'm dealing with is coming to London. I need to be there." Tommy told her as he sat down on the steps.

Sarah snorted and shook her head, "Right, but if this man hadn't agreed we'd still be in America now, right?" Tommy's silence was clear enough for Sarah as she sighed and sat down next to him, "We're never leaving this life, are we."

"We will leave, Sar. One last deal to be done-"

Sarah squeezed her eyes shut and looked down to the ground in frustration, "It's always one last fucking deal." She snapped.

Once again Tommy continued as if she hadn't spoken, "-It'll be difficult. Difficulties are to be expected. This is why I must move from item to item."

"What colours do you see, Tommy?" Sarah asked, confusing him.

"What?"

"These days you speak as if you're watching everything on a screen, so what are you seeing? Are you ahead of your time with colour or a classic black and white."

Tommy was silent for a moment before settling on, "When we go home."  Sarah scoffed and stood up, with Tommy doing the same to stop her from walking away, "When we go home, we'll give the kids to Frances, and then you and me will go to bed."

"And I will be the next item on your list right? When we were younger I used to think I'd be just another notch on your bedpost, now I just feel like an item that you need to tick off." She snapped with her arms folded.

Tommy frowned, that wasn't how he viewed her, that's not how he'd ever viewed her. Sarah was his person, only person he needed to keep him sane.

Tommy grabbed her face gently, "Sarah, I want to go to bed with you because I haven't seen you in weeks."
