Sugar & Cream [A Jeong Jaehyun FF]

Jaehyun's POV:

[Hospital]

"Hi, mother. How are you?" I said entering her cabin and keeping the bouquet and cookies by her table stand. She smiled at me before she smiled at the bouquets and cookies.

"Jaehyun... I've been well... how are you?" She asked and her voice was weaker than usual. Anyone could tell that she has not been well. Previously, she would get off her bed but now, she is just lying down on the bed and barely managing to keep her eyes open. I took a deep breath and took a seat next to her. I gently held her hands and this made her smile.

"I've been fine"

"That is good to know. How is your university? Do you have any favorite subjects yet?" 

"I don't know about favorite subjects... but chemistry class is definitely my favorite" I replied and I wonder why I like the chemistry class.... hmm... quite suspicious. 
My mother chuckled weakly at my response. 

"Of course, it had to be chemistry class... I met your dad for the first time at a chemistry class too" She replied and I could see where she was getting at. I shook my head and she again chuckled at my behavior.

"It is certainly not what you are thinking it is, mother," I said because it is true. I didn't meet her in the chemistry class for the first time. I met her before that. 

"How is your health, Jaehyun? You aren't skipping any meals are you?" 

"Nope, I haven't been skipping any meals"
I wish... I wish that I could tell you that I was hemophilic just like dad... I wish I could tell you whatever the hell is going on between me, Y/n, and Taeyong... I wish I could tell you everything that was bothering me but I don't want you to worry about something more... I want you to have a peaceful life where you don't need to worry about anything... a life where I can see you smile every day. 

[Time skip: University]

I was headed for my class after submitting my assignments. While walking through the corridor... I saw her. She was standing at one end of the corridor talking with her best friend. I saw her smile and laugh every time she talked with her. 
I wonder what it's like to make her smile. 
I may not have noticed it previously but does she smile like that when she is around me? 
Just then she turned in my direction and smiled. For a moment, I thought that she smiled at me which is why I was about to take a step towards her but stopped when I saw him walk towards her. She didn't smile at me... she smiled at him. 

They were having a conversation and I didn't mean to look like someone who is secretly giving off two people who are bonding, an evil eye. I took a step backward when she looked at me. No, this time... she really did look at me. She didn't smile or anything, she just looked at me. 
Taeyong seemed to have noticed it as the reason he turned around and waved at me and I waved back at him. He said something to her that made her nod and smile before he started walking to me. Y/n turned around to leave but before she left, she turned around to look at me one last time before disappearing among the students in the corridors

"Jaehyun! I heard you visited your mother... how is she?" He asked putting his arm around my shoulder making me chuckle. He has always been the clingy best friend and as for me... I really don't know

"Well... like I said previously, she doesn't have much time left, judging from her look today... I could tell that she was not doing okay" I replied with a low voice while we walked to the class

"And... did you tell her? About you being... hemophilic?" Taeyong asked and there was hesitation in his statement

"No... I don't want her to worry about anything... not with the amount of time she has left... I want my mother to smile every day without any worries" I said as he rubbed my shoulders

"Yeah, let's not talk about this right now... but what were you talking with Y/n and her friend over there?" I asked in the most non-suspicious way ever and fortunately, he didn't see that I almost gave them an evil eye

"I asked Y/n if I could walk her to the bus stand today or not. She agreed" I stopped in my tracks when he said that 

"What? Why? Do you... like her?" 

"Who knows? Anyways... I got to go... got classes. See you after the classes, Jae! Also! Mother asked you to come over for dinner" Taeyong said before running off to his class while I just stood there. At this point, I have absolutely no idea who likes whom.
But if Taeyong does like Y/n... I feel like no one is going to be more happier than her... after all, you can't just have feelings for someone with whom you had a one-night stand. There is no way. 

[Chemistry practical]

"... now once you add the sodium nitroprusside, the color of the solution changes" I did as the professor asked me to when Y/n walked up to me. I looked at her wondering why she was there.

"Jaehyun... could you tell me about the experiment again? I kind of lost track because Ji-eon was continuously talking and so was I" She said and it made me chuckle

"Typical best friends thing. Happened to me too... don't worry, I'll tell you" I replied and it made her smile. I took another test tube from the shelves and began doing what the professor taught us earlier while she listened carefully to me. 

"Are you and Taeyong best friends?" She asked

"You've already asked that but yes... since elementary school. First, our mothers used to be best friends, and then we became friends too

"Really? Since elementary school? Did you both go to the same high school too?" I nodded at her question

"How was he like in high school?" 

"Well... he was quite popular in high school... girls had a crush on him, he was good at sports, especially basketball and swimming" I replied

"And how were you like in high school?" I stopped in my movements when I heard her question. What was I like during my high school years? Probably a few years in my life that I wish never existed. I wanted to forget it. 

"It doesn't matter" I stopped what I was saying before I took a deep breath and said,

"Do you like him?" She didn't answer my question and for a moment I thought she didn't. I kept the previous test tube on the counter and reached out for another test tube when she said,

"Yes... I like him" 

I don't say anything in return. Just that the test tube slips and falls from my hand breaking itself into pieces making everyone present in the room startled.

"I'm sorry, the test tube slipped from my hand" I apologized and bend down in an attempt to pick up the pieces of glass that were scattered on the floor but for a moment, I forgot that I was hemophilic 

"Jaehyun, wait the glass-" before she could complete her sentence, I had already got a long and not-so-deep cut on my palm. Blood started flowing out from my wound and fell to the floor.

"Jaehyun, you are bleeding!" Y/n said as she bent down and covered my wound with her handkerchief. Before I could say anything, I was already being dragged by her to the nurse's office while blood kept flowing down my arm on the floor. We reached the office but there was no one there and it made her groan. 

"Great! Just great!" She said before making me sit on the chair while she brought the first aid box. She gently removed her handkerchief which was soaked in blood by now and gently washed my hand with water yet the blood did not stop flowing. 

"Jaehyun... it's been minutes since we came here... why isn't the blood flow stopping?" She asked looking at my wound with a worried expression

No... I can't let her know about this... the last thing I'd want from her is pity.
