As Stacey adjusted the white beanie on her head, her eyes fell on her hand through the mirror and Dylan's word that she had ruminated over during breakfast struck her. I can't afford to see you hurt. What was that meant to mean? It was only one suitable conclusion that came to her head and it made her chest, for no good reason, tighten. Sighing, she adjusted her peach trench coat and stepped out of the lavender-scented bathroom.
She grabbed her long white Channel boots and sat on the bed to slip her leg through. If he couldn't afford to see her hurt, then that means he didn't want her to be hurt because of the contract. She grabbed her black sling bag off the bed and wore it across her body.
Yes, that was it. Dylan didn't want to have a case arise against him because she was injured. As she moved out of her airy room, disappointment made her chest heavy. She couldn't believe he would be that cheap. But then this was the guy who had paid for first-class for a thirty-minute flight. Hence, that couldn't be why. Her head began to throb slightly as she made her way downstairs, eyes on the sole of her boots.
Shaking her head, she decided she was going to lock it away somewhere in her brain. It was troubling her and she had enough things to trouble her as it was. As she stepped into the sitting room, she stepped into a form of conversation.
"...necessary to take them." Jane was wearing a blue coat and dress, a black and white polka dot scarf wrapped around her neck. One that grazed the carton she held in her hand as she partially turned to William.
William who was holding Jade and carrying his youngest daughter, whose face was partially obstructed by his chest and her lengthy hair, looked down as he walked them both out of the sitting room. "Yes, but who will look after them?"
Jane adjusted her red beret, her eyes looking tired. "I don't know but I can't be running after them."
James and Joanne who were dressed in matching parkas and ear mufflers frowned and began to stomp their feet as they followed after them. James came up with his argument. "Mummy, that isn't fair. It will be fun outside."
Joanne went to wrap her hands around her legs and looked up at her mum while Emmett and Ryle moved things outside. "The house is boring. Please, I want to go out."
Jane sighed as she tried to pry her hands off. "Not today. I don't have the energy to watch you two run about while I distribute things."
"But mum-"
"Quiet, please. It's final." She removed her fingers but that didn't stop them both from whining and following her outside like puppies denied their food.
The house was filled with people moving in and out. She noticed Raelynne and Raegan struggling to lift a large transparent plastic container that held well-secured food packs near the entrance. She moved to help when Raelynne, turned her head, her neck grazing the black fur jacket she had on and spoke. "No, don't worry."
Stacey lifted a brow. "What?"
Reagan who was dressed in all black, the cream fur he had on the only bright colour on his outfit was the one who answered her. "It's cool sweetheart. You look good by the way." He complimented her as his gaze roamed over her before he grunted when they finally lifted the container.
Trying to understand what just happened, she watched as Raelynne warned Raegan to not call her pet names, because he might never know when Dylan might pop up as she walked backward, eyes darting to the entrance every three seconds.
