(Dawn's POV)It's a cool and gloomy day as I walk hand in hand with Peter by my side. The leaves of the maple colored trees dance through the air. The smell of hot apple cider and cinnamon rolls fills my nose. Peter and I spent most of last night preparing the cider and cinnamon rolls for his aunt May.
As we continue walking towards the childhood home Peter once lived in my mind is brought back to a time in Russia where everything was different. Mama and I would spend most of the day gardening and preparing soup, as papa would cut firewood for the winter season. Sitting by the brick stove fireplace momma would tell tales of woodland creatures. Creatures that would become protectors of the forest. The protectors would live in harmony with the seasons.
The creatures were named after the beauty of nature, some would have wood like skin, and others would have pointed ears. But the most important of creatures would look completely human. The human-like creatures were able to blend in with the human world and protect all woodland kind from the dangers that humans could bring. Those who were unfortunate enough to meet their demise by the hand of these creatures would often mistake them for witches.
Mama would always say that she believed me to be a descendant of one of these creatures as I always loved to explore the woods. Mama and I would even leave nuts and berries for the creatures to survive throughout the seasons.
I miss those moments of cooking and telling stories with mama. New York is so much different from my little town in Russia. Embracing nature was so much easier when you weren't confined to the concrete jungle of New York City.
Now living on the farm I feel like I have a much closer connection to home. It may not be the place where my parent's and I stayed, but one thing I will never forget is how nature continues to hold the memories of home for so many.
Walking to the apartment door Peter looks at me in pure excitement.
"Are you ready Dawn? I'm excited for you to finally meet May for the first time."
"Of course I'm ready. I'm excited to meet the woman that has made such a big impact in your life. I mean you wouldn't be you without your aunt." I say with a smile.
Peter unlocks the door of his old apartment.
"Aunt May we're home!"
I walk in timidly as I look around the homey apartment. The tv displays a fireplace on screen, the couch is covered with warm knit blankets, and the walls are filled with pictures and memories of Peter's childhood.
Pictures of Peter's high school graduation as he wears his blue cap and gown. Pictures of Ned, Mj, Peter, and Aunt may having Christmas dinner together. In the middle of the wall holds a large family portrait. In the picture is a younger version of Peter smiling brightly as he sits next to his mother, father, Uncle Ben, and Aunt May. Peter looked the happiest I have ever seen him as he held his new robotics kit.
"Oh Peter I'm glad you made it, and this must be Dawn."
Turning around I smile towards May. Her golden brown hair curled into a simple bun as her square glasses rested upon her face. She's wearing a golden orange sweater as she rocks simple flare jeans. I can see where Peter gets his lovable and kind nature from.
"Hello, it's so nice to meet you. Peter has told me so much about you."
"You're too kind Dawn. Honestly I've been bugging Peter for ages to let me meet you, especially since he never stops talking about you. Peter tells me you do amazing work for Shield. He even mentioned that you both share a love for all things Star Wars. After he told me that there was no doubt in my mind that you both were soulmates. I remember how he would always say he hoped his soulmate would have Star Wars marathons with him while building Legos." May smiled.
