As Tommy's eyelids fluttered open, he realized that he wasn't in the real world, but a desolate, revolting wasteland. It wasn't anything close to an abyss or darkness, but a dried well of what used to be refreshing thoughts.
The taste of bitter dirt lingered in his mouth and his eyes stung with an intake of the scent around him.
To him, the area looked as if onions had been cut for years and his eyes were tearing up too badly.
This was not his mind.
This was not any world he knew.
This was no kingdom. This was someone's conscience.
This was their perceptive of the entire world around them, or what it seemed like to them.
A battlefield, with too many drops of vengeful blood.
Wounds that could barely scar over and were even harder to fully heal."What the hell..." Was all Tommy could mutter under his breath as he took a step.
His body was being pulled down like a magnet, having trouble pulling away at times. He was being pulled to something else, something that he was all too familiar with.
He stomped his feet at the gravel, realizing how fragile the mindscape was as it fragmented apart and cracked.
He took lighter steps, careful of where he touched down.
He could hear something distant in the whistling wind, a shield defending itself from the outside.
"No....please no...." It begged, the ground beginning to shake and crumble below Tommy's feet.
"She can't be....it can't be so...She's...no..."
Tommy knew those feelings.
He had befriended that grief a long time ago but never truly could feel comfortable with it.
Denial is what stage he was stuck on for so long.
He had a hard time accepting the world as it was, being a kid with an innocent and imaginative head.
Those smiles, laughter, and joy had died along with his parents.
What was left was barely able to be put back together again.
He was glad his story didn't end up like Humpty Dumpty, where no one could help heal the broken pieces.
"Hey..." He quietly said, startling the man out of his trance.
He watched as somber emerald green eyes met his disconsolate blue ones.
"She's gone." the man uttered, tears pricking at the corner of his eyes and spilling over furiously.
"She's gone." He repeated, his voice cracking even more as he gripped his head.
Tommy watched him, watched as his body shivered with dread.
He was on the verge of desolation, practically at its front porch as the color around him began to dim.
All feelings were sucked, whirled away, then brought back to oozing knives with anguish.
Tommy knew that he meant Drista.
But at the current moment, he was confused about his relationship to her.
"You're talking about Drista...right?"
The man paused his actions and looked up at Tommy with prickling sockets."Yes...I'm talking about my sister..."
He revealed, Tommy watching as the man held back his sniffles."What? How'd you get possessed by a guy like XD? Weren't you with her for most of her childhood?" the man shook his head.
"I was taken by him one day when I went to get firewood with my father. He tried sparing his life by offering mine instead but still died either way. I hated him for it and soon my mother's death soon followed from heartbreak...."
Same as Drista's story...but different Tommy thought.
"Drista said you were gone though, how did you find out about your mothers death?"
He asked."I watched it happen..." He responded.
"But you weren't there?"
"I was...no one knew I was though,""What do you mean?" Tommy asked.
"Listen, I'm starting to realize just how many questions you have...so I'll paint you the entire picture." He concluded and stood up.
That's when the terrain around Tommy began to shift and transform itself, sweeping him off his feet as the wasteland formed into the past right before his eyes.
As snow flurries fell onto his nose, Tommy found himself shivering vigorously.
Pine trees were nestled around him and the sky was fogged with light fluffy clouds.
Traversing the new world, Tommy began walking in a random direction, not knowing where he was going, but knowing he was doing something.
He couldn't see Dream anywhere or XD for that matter which worried him.
It was just him and no one else.As he wandered the forest, the Earth's pulses connected with his own heartbeat, connecting him to his surroundings and allowing a sense of awareness to form within.
His instincts seem to take account of his uneven steps that crunched in the snow and his layered breaths that he took with each movement his body made.
He was slowly progressing somewhere but that somewhere was anonymous at the moment.
When he was able to catch his breath, he felt his body tremor at the sight before him.
His lips pursed against each other and he gripped his knuckles until they were as white as the snow in front of him.
The snow wasn't the only thing that stood before him as he averted his eyes from the ground below him to the cottage that towered over him.
The foggy windows didn't seem to do the smoky chimney justice as the wood looked frozen over.
As Tommy walked closer, he could see his blurry figure within the window's reflection and question the slightly darker hair and taller frame.
He paid no mind to it when he lifted his arm to rub the window clear and peek inside the house, taking note of it's messy interior.
He found a little girl beside a bed, caressing a woman's hand.
As the woman stroked back the little girl's hair from in front of her face, he watched as tears began to manifest and pour down her face.
She was clearly upset and he was feeling the same way at the moment but he didn't know why.
The whole entire thing was puzzling him. Pressing his ear against the glass, he heard muffled sobs and gentle words spoken.
The girl was familiar to him, her eyes were a glistening emerald green and she had dirty blonde hair.
The cloak around her was a green that resembled the same comfort as grass would.
That's when suddenly the feelings in his heart began to sink and his face darkened at the revelation.
Soon enough, he saw his own reflection but didn't recognize it as his own.
Instead it was a reflection of the man he had met, the one behind the rocks.
Jade eyes glared at him and began to distort and glitch as he fell to the floor in pain.
When Tommy regained control of his body, he found himself back in the wasteland beside Dream.
"That girl....t-that girl!" he began sputtering.
"Drista." Dream finished for him.
