i sighed softly as i rubbed my face with my hands, closing my eyes against my palms. i pressed slightly on my eyes to relieve the pressure that had been building up over the night, the computer in front of me not doing much for my headache.
after a moment, i let out another sigh and let my hands drop as i got back to work, glancing at the time.
12:37 am
i scoffed slightly, looking back at the words on my screen and staring to write things down.
though, a crash of thunder startled me, making me jump and look out the window next to me.
i paused my music, opting to listen to the rain tapping on the window rather than the chords of guitars and rhythms of drums.
i got back to work, the occasional lightning flash lighting up the dark library around me.
my mind wondered to the hours before this moment as i mindlessly wrote notes, that time seemingly more entertaining than this.
i jumped slightly as the lights around me turned off. i looked up, looking around the library to see nothing on besides a couple emergency lights on the main floor.
i hummed slightly, looking around at the rows of books that were in front of and behind me on the second floor, the arch ways that broke the walls on either side giving me the ability to see the main floor to my left and outside to my right through the windowpanes.
i looked back in front of me, glancing at the clock at the bottom right corner of my screen.
9:43 pm.
i looked back around the library, realizing the lights turned off because the library had closed with me locked inside.
i looked down at the table, seeing the multitude of work i still had yet to complete.
'this is fine.' i thought, going back to writing my notes.
"y/n?" someone called. i jumped, looking up from my paper to the left of me, seeing rain—the ghoul that kept following me around.
"rain, hi." i smiled, not as scared by his presence as i had been in the past. "you know the library closed almost 3 hours ago." rain grinned. i chuckled slightly, nodding as i looked back at my computer screen.
"yeah, i got locked in. i'm too tired to do anything about it and i still have a lot of work to do so i figured i'd just stay. the window is also letting in some cold air so i'm comfy." i explained, writing down more notes.
rain hummed, walking over to me and pulling over a chair, sitting in it after.
"why do you follow me around?" i asked, glancing at the water ghoul. he grinned at me. "i like you. you're interesting. most humans i haunt are boring." rain explained. i looked over, staring at him for a moment.
"i'm spending my friday night locked in a library. how on earth am i interesting?" i asked. "how many people get locked in libraries?" rain countered. "how did i get locked in a library?" i grinned. "doing homework." rain grinned back. "right. i'm spending my friday night locked in a library because i'm a nerd." i laughed, looking back at my screen.
"a pretty nerd." rain flirted. i rolled my eyes, hiding my blush from the water ghoul as i continued to write notes down.
"c'mon, that was smooth!" rain laughed, leaning back in his chair. i giggled slightly, nodding as i looked back at him.
"i should've known you were showing up tonight." i smiled, putting my pen down and turning my body to face the ghoul. "yeah? and how would you know that?" rain asked, leaning forward so our faces were inches apart.
"it always storms when you visit me." i whispered. rain smiled softly. "i'm glad you noticed. i remember you telling me storms are your favorite so i wanted to make them happen more." rain whispered back. i smiled, closing my eyes and pressing my forehead to rain's.
rain's breathing shuddered slightly, his breath fanning on my lips as he leaned into me as well.
"y/n?" rain whispered. i hummed. "you know i care about you.. a lot, right?" rain asked. i slowly opened my eyes, rain doing the same.
"i.. i didn't know that, no." i answered, a bit shocked by rain's comment. "well i do. so much. i don't know what i would do without my favorite human." rain grinned. i rolled my eyes.
"and the moment's ruined." i stated, leaning back away from rain. the water ghoul laughed, standing up and pulling me from my seat.
"don't say that, dove." rain grinned, gracefully spinning me around with a delicate hold on my hand. i smiled as rain pulled me back to him, his arms wrapping around me and holding me close.
"i care about you too, rain." i whispered. i felt rain smile against my neck.
"good."
