39| Despair Clock

The jester returns your frown, though there is something off about it, he looks to have something troubling him. This goes on too long.

"Rascal," you say and he looks up, "please take me."

"There is no persuading you otherwise~ is there?"

You shake your head.

Then, he turns away and you know that he does not agree. But still standing beside you, the jester takes your hand gently, long clawed fingers gently interlock with yours and just like old times, teleports you and then the both of you are out of the Shadow Realm.

There is a strong breeze in between the mountains and the valleys, green rolling hills and tall pointed trees for miles. The sky is a clear and crisp blue dotted with clouds. What a good idea this was, attack the Glitter Force here.

It takes you awhile to figure out that Rascal is still holding your hand, even with the wolf, the witch and the troll standing right there.

"There they are," growls a disgusted Ulric, "I can't wait to give them what they deserve." He looks out onto a large hill, where the Glitter Force sit in their usual circle on a picnic blanket in the distance. Food overfills a basket to their right and of course Candy and Pop are there too.

Brute adds, "And give the world an unhappy ending!"

"This is our last chance," hums a confident Rascal, "if we don't get the last charm...well you're not going to want to know~" The jester looks at the three goons threateningly, though they do not have a clue that he means their power will be stripped.

"What about after we get it?" Asks Brooha.

"Then," the joker grins, "we'll be able to use my Clock of Despair, and bring back Emperor Nogo once and for all!~"

"Sounds good," Ulric says, grinding a fist into his palm.

"Let's get 'em!"

The joker holds up a black buffoon. "Let the fun begin~"

Out the five of you zoom to the top of the hill, then dive behind a bush to listen.

"They aren't going to bother us here Lily, I promise." You hear Glitter Lucky's voice, most definitely talking about you.

"Yeah!" Comes Glitter Spring. "They have been gone for at least a month when they took the charms."

"But what if we don't get them back in time?" Glitter Peace worries.

"Queen Euphoria will help," you hear Pop begin and try not to snort, "she is on our side remember girls, she will look after us...Candy? What's wrong?"

Curious, you tweak open a branch in the bush to see all the girls looking down at the pixie in shock. Candy is jumpy and fidgety, rolling around on the picnic blanket.

"Ahhh, I don't know! I feel very restless all of a sudden!" She squeaks, laughing it off, and so do the other girls, but you see Pop unable to take cautious eyes off of her.

He must know. Candy must have been like this ever since 15 charms have been collected and brought this close to the Royal Clock.

Oh yes, which is also sitting out with them on the top of the picnic basket.

The Glitter Force continue talking about how worried everyone is, and how the Queen will revive and the world will get the happy ending that it should, when pain bursts along your inner wrist and you have to pull away from spying through the bush.

Rascal is right beside you, and notices something is wrong straight away. His head snaps in your direction when he sees you pull away and wince.

You lift your arm and your heart sinks when you see that the poison has spread all the way to your inner elbow now, the skin pale and veins black against it. All day, the past seven days in fact, you have begun to feel weak.
