Naomi

Tutoring was the way I made my money I was gifted enough to be able to profit off my ability to help, so that's what I do. I like it but at times it would be a lot to handle.

For example, I had to tutor for my school but I had to do the sessions for free. My guidance counselor told me I needed community service hours and it only counted if it was free.

Today, I had to tutor a freshman, her name was Mallory she was a small red headed girl with freckles. She looked like she could still be in middle school given her size.

She wasn't a hard student to teach its just to me, my time is money and to spend it doing a service for free seemed impossible.

"Okay I think I got it now, in order to find the given I would have to multiply this variable by two?" The girl asks.

"Yeah, that's all you have to do most of the time with theses types of problems once you got the basics you're set."

"Thank you it felt like I would never be able to understand this." She sighs with relief and I smile.
It felt nice to see the relief of of someone once they understood something that seemed so hard before.

"Yeah of course."

"Well my rides waiting for me it's about time for me to go."

"Okay have a good night."

"You too, be safe, it's starting to get dark outside."

"Yeah its been getting dark so early." I sigh.

"Yeah well I'll see you later."

"Yeah see you." I wave watching her exit the Library.

I let out a sigh of exhaustion as the emptiness of my surroundings settles in. This library was huge it had an up and down stairs with rows of books laid across the walls. The doors were decorated with corny motivational quotes and pictures of former icons from the past. I loved being in here it's felt like I was able to escape from the real world whenever I came.

I planned to take the city bus home but the thing about that was the bus stop was a mile away from my school and it was freezing cold outside. But I would rather be in the cold than be a burden.

Grabbing my bag I go to the exit of the library waving goodbye to the librarian that sat at the front desk. She was a sweet old lady with gray hair and wise dark brown eyes, she was always recommending me new books to read.

Opening the door I accidentally walk into someone passing by causing me to drop my notebook. This door was honestly a hazard people walked by all the time almost getting hit by another person or the door itself.

"I'm sorry I didn't see you." I sigh looking up to realize it was Matteo.

"You okay Naomi?" He asks picking up my book.

I'm surprised he even remembered my name let alone asked if I was alright.

"I'm fine thank you." I smile taking the book from him.

"You usually hang out in the library after school?"
He asks starting a conversation.

It felt unnatural that he's even bothering to talk to me outside of class. Usually the only thing people like him talk to me about was work. So why was he acting like he was different?

"I was tutoring." I say flatly I didn't want this conversation to continue only because if I did I will probably miss my bus.

"Oh I see, where are you going to next?"

"The bus stop to go home."

"In this cold? That's like a mile away." He says in disbelief.

"I know it's fine." I dismiss.

"How about I take you home."

"No it's okay I wouldn't want to bother you." I say shaking my head.

"Trust me you could never be a bother, come on my cars outside." He says grabbing my hand leading me, he didn't even give me a chance to decline his offer again.

This was weird a boy holding my hand not to mention it was a popular one, next I'm in his car. Things move quickly don't they? I internalize a sigh realizing my situation.

He was acting like we were friends or something we were quite the opposite. It wasn't that I didn't like him, I mean look at him he's a good looking guy it's just I knew I shouldn't trust people like him. I trusted Maya and Brandon and look where that got me.

"Naomi?" He asks breaking the silence.

I had already gave him my address and he hasn't said anything since he started to drive I wish he would've kept it going.

"Yeah?"

"Are you cold, I can turn the heat up."

"No it's nice and warm." I smile, at least he made sure I was comfortable.

"Okay good." He nods.

"I saw you during lunch today." He says.

"You stalking me now?" I ask with a smile.

"No it's just you were all alone are you always alone like that?"

"Well kinda I use to have a friend a best friend actually but she ended up being no good for me." I say my eyes starting to water. "Im over sharing my fault." I sigh.

Our friendship had problems but it was still a friendship non the less, I hated the fact that I missed her after all the things she did to me.

"No you're fine, are you okay?" He asks looking over at me.

"Yeah I'm fine it's doesn't matter and you probably don't care." I say wiping away the tear that feel down my face.

"I do care what do you mean?"

"No you don't," I scoff.

"I know you're acting like you care about me it's nice and all but you can cut the act now I know what you really want you're just like everyone else don't try to confuse me and act like you're any different."

"What are you talking about?"

"Don't play dumb you're only helping me because you want to pass Mrs.Martini's class and once you do you'll leave me for dry like everyone else. Don't try to act nice you're confusing me."

"The fact that you think I'm like everyone else says a lot about you." He scoffs.

"You are the definition of what I shouldn't trust a rich popular boy that uses girls."I roll my eyes.

"Oh wow, I do you a favor by taking you home and you insult me?" He shakes his head pulling into my drive way.

"Thank you for the ride." I yell with a meanness slamming his car door. Did I mention he drove a Porsche it was a really nice car I felt bad for even slamming it.

"You're welcome." He yells back with the same hostility.

I leave walking into my house slamming the house door in a fit. I know I was wrong for going off on him,  even though he was trying to help. But I never understood how to take kindness without there being ulterior motives behind it, everyone wanted something.

Maybe he was different and I was just being mean for no reason he seemed sweet. And I would be lying if I told you I didn't fall for him a bit when I fist meet him. But that's even more reason why I had to be cautious.
