Rewonay had fallen asleep when Tonowari was bringing her back to her Marui. Ronal, with the help of Neytiri who had been the tsakarem of the Omaticaya clan, was examining her daughter and performing a ceremony to guarantee her well-being. Everyone else was waiting by the entrance, their faces deformed by worry. Tsireya was anxious fidgeting with her fingers, Ao'nung was continuously tapping his feet on the wooden floor, Tonowari appeared lost in his thoughts, and the Sully family remained in heavy silence. Neteyam's eyes were fixed on the Rewonay's sleeping figure. Seeing her eyes closed scared him. What if she never opens them again? It would destroy him. Though this thought would linger in his head even when both Tonowari and Jake had congratulated him for his quick reactivity in saving Rewonay.
"I can call my friend to run an analysis on her," Jake suddenly told Tonowari. "To make sure she has no brain damage or to understand what happened,"
On the way to the Marui, Kiri had explained what had happened exactly. Rewonay was among the best swimmers in Awa'atlu, she could not drown. But it still happened. Kiri remembered the whiteness of her friend's eyes when she was sinking. It was surely unusual so she told Tonowari and her father. Of course, worry struck them even more. It was clear that something happened to her. Maybe a seizure, Jake first thought. He wanted to help. It was the least he could do after they had welcomed them into their oceanic paradise.
But Tonowari seemed not very convinced by the idea.
"I appreciate it but I doubt your technology will help us, Jake Sully," the Olo'eyktan quietly said. Jake slightly frowned. He was aware that the Metkayina had not been in contact with humans as much as the Omaticayas, which may be a reason for his wariness. But any help was welcome. "This is beyond reason,"
"What do you mean?" The frown on Jake's brow grew deeper as now all the Sully family were intrigued.
Tonowari did not answer for a short moment. Instead, he gazed at Ronal who already was looking at him. It seemed like they were having another silent conversation. Ronal seemed a bit hesitant at first. She caressed fondly Rewonay's head. She then sighed and nodded at her husband. If they knew, perhaps they could look after her.
This silent exchange intrigued Neteyam even more. It was clear that something was hidden from them. Even Tsireya and Ao'nung shared a strange look. But what could this secret be?
"This is the first time it has happened in water," Tonowari eventually spoke again.
"It happened before?" Neytiri asked, concern in her voice. Tonowari nodded.
"Rewonay is like no other Na'vi," he continued. There was a certain carefulness in his voice as if he was weighing his words, looking for the right one so the Sully family would understand. And believe him. "She has a connection to the Great Mother. A connection that allows her to see things before they happen,"
"Wait, you mean she can see the future?" Lo'ak asked. His tone indicated that he hardly believed it.
"It sounds like a bunch of lies but it's true," Tsireya defended. They all looked at her. The usual gentleness and joy on her face were long gone and replaced by seriousness. By belief. "She foresaw the return of the Sky People days before they came. And she already knew about your arrival in Awa'atlu as well. That's why she was already on the shore that day. She was waiting for you,"
They remembered it too. When their ikrans were getting closer and closer, when they were admiring the village and its inhabitants working, unaware of their arrival, they all spotted a girl on the shore. She was looking at them. She was the only one who was looking at them as if she had already known of their coming. It had been the very first time Neteyam had noticed Rewonay. And the first time he had marveled at her beauty.
