Just another busy day for his comrade pyotr, Alina, and every personnel. They must have to transport a new weapon arsenal to every military base in USSR, especially in northern Russia, where it took several days to get there. After a long week of a busy month, they finally break at the military canteen that is not far from their barracks. Except for Matyev, he joins a shooting range competition in pokrov, which is not far from the capital Moscow. while Pyotr and Alina eat their food. Matyev comes to the canteen and walks to pyotr and Alina
"Just another day in the life of a soldier," Pyotr muttered as he and Alina trudged towards the military canteen. Their comrade, Matyev, had left earlier that day to compete in a shooting range competition in Pokrov.
"I know, right?" Alina replied, her tone tired. "But at least the canteen's not far from our barracks."
As they sat down to eat, Matyev sauntered in with a grin on his face. "Hey, guys! Did you miss me?" he joked, taking a seat beside them.
"Look, that's our champion matyev. How was your competition, Did you win the competition?" Ask Pyotr.
Matyev leaned back in his chair, sipping his coffee. "Tough, but I managed to win. I'm the champion!" he boasted. replied matyev while drinking coffee.
The three of them laughed and continued eating. While eating, Alina talks about yesterday's busy day. "Yesterday was a rough day, a lot of tasks and missions we had to do," Alina said, rubbing her temples.
"Tell me about it," Pyotr agreed. "But at least we have some good news. The minister of defense just received a new arsenal weapon and replaced the Ak-47 in every base in USSR. They also added some new additions for the Akm such as a grenade launcher." he continued
"Wow, that's great news," Matyev said, nodding in approval. "I also heard that they have released a new multi-purpose vehicle and it is already in mass production."
Alina beamed. "Well, that's good news then. So we don't have to ride those old GAZ-MM trucks anymore." said Beamed
Pyotr and matyev both nodded and continued their eating. while their eating, an Alarm starts ringing around every military camp, causing every soldier in the canteen starts preparing in the direction that other personnel told in the speakers
"All military personnel are expected to gather at the military depot for an inspection," a voice boomed over the speakers. "Except for the person whose name I mentioned. Matyev Lebedev, Pyotr Vinogradov, and Alina Zakharova. I hope the name I mentioned comes to General Alexei Novikov now. Thank you."
and Matyev exchanged confused glances, but Alina shrugged. "I guess we're exempted from the inspection," she said.
"What do you think this is about?" Matyev asked as they approached the door.
"I have no idea," Pyotr replied. "But I hope it's not something serious."
they three nodded and walks to General Alexei's office.
after arriving in front of General Alexei's office, pyotr knocked on General Alexei's door.
"Yes come in, I want to talk with you three." answered General Alexei.
"with all due respect, sir. what's calling us, sir?" asked matyev respectfully
"I contacted the German government that you will be sent to Wietzendorf for military joint operation. Later you will be accompanied by Officer Aleksandr Andrei." General Alexei said
Matyev's face lit up. "When will we be assigned, sir?"
"Tomorrow morning. Better not be late," General Alexei warned.
"We'll do our best, sir," Matyev promised.
As they left the office, Matyev turned to Officer Aleksandr, who had been waiting outside. "So, you're our escort to Wietzendorf?"
"Yes, I am," Officer Aleksandr confirmed, shaking Matyev's hand. "You must be Matyev Lebedev, right? The soldier who won the shooting range competition."
Matyev grinned. "That's me. Nice to work with you, Officer Aleksandr Andrei."
Officer Aleksandr smiled. "Nice to work with you too, soldier. Alright, now you guys go back to the barrack. Don't be late tomorrow, I also headed to my bedroom too."
"Yes sir."
After that, he leaves three of them. Pytor and Matyev go to the male barrack meanwhile Alina goes to the female barrack.
At night.
Inside the barracks, many soldiers were still chatting with each other. Matyev who was sleeping on a bunk bed continued chatting. "Hey, Pyotr," Matyev said suddenly. "What's the reason why you joined the army?"
Pyotr shrugged. "I have no idea why I joined the army. How about you?"
"Me? Well, the reason why I joined the army is because of well... Back before I became a soldier, I was a shopkeeper back then but during the revolution in 1920 everyone in my town became a conscription soldier including me," Matyev explained.
"Yeah, actually the reason why I joined the army was because of conscription too," Pyotr revealed. "Hell, 1920 was a tough year. At that time many died from hunger because the economy at that time was still unstable. That's the reason why I joined the army, just wanted to get decent meals."
Their conversation was cut short as they reached the barracks and were immediately met with a yelling barracks guard officer. "What's the meaning of this? The troops all line up," Shout the guard while the soldier starts to line up.
"Attention!" the guard officer barked. "The inspection team is here. Listen up y'all. You as the military are assigned to protect the country, not to be clowns. If I hear the slightest sound from your barracks then we will give you a very tough task. Is it clear?" asked the barracks guard yelling
"Yes sir."Shout soldier
"Alright, good night soldier." The guard said as he turned off the light and closed the barracks door.
"Crap, we got caught better go sleep for tomorrow."
"Yeah, I don't have anything to talk about, good night."
As they settled in for the night, Matyev couldn't help but feel grateful for his comrades. Despite the dangers they faced daily, they always had each other's backs. And that was all that mattered in the life of a soldier.
