Through New Sight (Eyeless Jack x Reader)
Darkness.
Darkness surrounded you while an all-consuming, numbing sensation shrouded your senses, making it hard to breathe. It felt like a monstrous black snake had trapped and coiled itself around your body, constricting the air from your lungs.
You tried to move your legs, lift a finger, wiggle any part of your body to escape this sickening feeling, but the pressure that surrounded you was far too heavy for you to break free from its crushing stillness.
Your anxiety spiked and your heart pounded faster at the realization that you were stuck.
Lost.
Helpless.
You slowly parted your lips to shout for help, but no noise reached your ears. The black void that surrounded you immediately snuffed out any sound you tried to make.
Tears pricked at the edge of your eyes and blurred your vision. You didn't know what to do . . . what you could do.
"Oh, you poor soul . . . " a deep, mysterious voice drawled, its bass echoing in the darkness.
Huh?
Baffled, you quickly blinked away the tears and scanned your surroundings for the source of the voice, but you were continuously met with the same dark void you woke up to.
"You tried your best to survive and live out your dainty, little life, but you were never the one in control, were you?" the voice said. It sighed in a long exhale, "Always the victim, never the victor . . . "
You furrowed your brows. Who even was this guy? How was he able to speak to you from this void- or rather, limbo- you found yourself in?
"It just seems all so unfair!" it continued suddenly.
Your eyebrows returned to a neutral, matter-of-factly state, as if you were to say, Well, yeah, of course.
" . . . I can help you, you know."
Your eyes widened.
"Ahh, I see you're interested," the voice peaked. "After all, you haven't lived your life to the fullest! It's not fair to have it taken from you so soon, and against your will, might I add."
You frowned as the memory of you running away from . . . something in the woods surfaced in your mind. You remembered being scared and confused as you ran without any say in the matter, being pulled and dragged over twigs and fallen leaves that you couldn't quite see.
Then you remembered static filling your mind. It was subtle at first, as if you were trying to tune an old TV into a channel. But then the static grew, expanding and pushing against your skull like a splitting headache. You were disoriented until the whole TV shattered into dozens of glass shards that sliced and racked your whole brain with pain. You wanted to scream then, but, in an instant, it was gone . . .
Was that when you died?
"It's not too late for you, though, my dear," the voice chimed in. "I can help you. Give you power."
You swallowed hard at the offer. It sounded too good to be true . . . Why help me? you thought to yourself. There's no way this is just out of the 'kindness of his heart.' What could he possibly gain from all this?
"I see that you're a bit . . . skeptical, to say the least. Allow me to explain the basis of this agreement," he continued with a renewed sense of intent, like a salesman proposing his best offer.
