You finally catch up to him, but he keeps walking. You fall in stride with him and walk back towards headquarters. You try to catch your breath and you feel like you could fall over at any moment. You're still unbelievably sore from last night.
"What's your issue?" You grill him as you both continue to walk. Levi is silent. His head is hanging low and his hands are in his pockets. If you didn't know better, you'd think he was the hungover one.
Finally Levi answers, "This is pointless," Levi says, clearly gesturing to the both of you. "I'm not sure what you think this is, but you're being a dumbass. We are scouts," he says firmly.
You stop in your tracks. You feel rigid. Your heart pounds in your chest.
"So?" You ask him, quieter than you intended. Levi stops, but doesn't turn towards you.
"So this has to end." Levi says sternly. You take a step towards him and reach out your hand. You want to grab his arm and shake him. Has nothing the two of you shared mattered to him? Everything you two have been through? All meaningless? Because of something you said while you were drunk?
"If this is about last night, I apologize, I drank way too much and-," Levi cuts you off,
"This is done," Levi says coldly as he continues to walk away from you, disappearing into the shadows hanging from headquarters.
You feel like your heart could burst. There's no way you can head into that building after him right now. Absolutely not. You wait until you are out of sight from headquarters to let the tears out. Fuck. You had never intended to feel this way about Levi. You had never intended for last night to end so poorly. Fuck.
You pick up your pace when you reach the river. There are people around and you don't want them to see your tears. You focus on the ground in front of you as you flee headquarters, heading anywhere that's not there. Damnit you'll walk all the way to Sheganshina if you have to. You need to get away.
Ooff-
You hit a wall and fall back flat on your ass. You feel dazed for a minute and then look up and realize the wall, was not a wall, it was a person. An officer of the military police.
"Hey there! You should be more careful!" He says extending a hand out to you.
He's tall. Probably close to six feet, if not taller. His blonde hair is long, but styled nicely in a low bun. His big build couples nicely with his large muscles. The sleeves of his military officer uniform are rolled up, revealing toned arms.
He must have noticed you staring at him like some kind of dumbass because he says, "Oh man, you must have had the wind knocked out of you! I am so sorry."
Finally you take the handsome mans hand and allow him to pull you up to a standing position. He towers over you by at least a foot. You swallow hard and smile coyly.
"Uh- yeah. Thank you," you say awkwardly, staring up at him. You drop his hand when you realize you've been holding on for too long and immediately blush. You force your head down so he can't see.
"Are you okay?" He asks sincerely, crossing his thick arms over his chest.
You pause and decide for some reason to answer him honestly, "Shit day."
"I bet your beat after what went down in Wall Rose yesterday," he says empathetically.
"Well-," you start, but stop yourself, too much to explain to someone you don't know. "Yeah...," you finish your thought and look up at him. He's very handsome, probably in his late thirties. You always had liked older men. You thoughts drift to Levi and your heart feels like it's going to shatter. You force him from your brain and decide you're going to need a distraction from your distraction.
