TUESDAY 21ST JULY 13:44 DC TIME/ 8:44 HAWAII TIME
"So Alex, how do you know Doctor Reid?" Ziva asked when I arrived back in the conference room with Spencer after our chat
"Before we start that you need a bit of back story, I was brought into MI6 because of a program to spot teens who they thought would make good officers, they spotted me young and brought me in so I could find my place before I turned 18. So I was assigned to various sectors including with Officer Reves then he was assigned to a task force which I joined him in, that's the short version. Also assigned to the task force was Spence he had worked for the BAU for a while and Hotch wanted to test him. We worked together for 8 weeks and we were by far the youngest in the task force as all the other agents and officers were fairly senior so we sat together and chatted, made fun of our bosses, the usual. We just never stopped when the task force was over we started writing letters to each other." I explained
"Letters? How very romantic." Tony said that smile creeping back onto his face, I swear he isn't usually like this
"Not like that Tony, Spence is a bit of a technophobe."
"Just a bit, Garcia has to print off all our case files for him. He refuses to use a tablet like the rest of us." Prentiss butted in, waving her tablet, but I didn't mind
"No, I'm not but 23% of relationships online end with one or both parties' deaths," Spencer added the fact helpfully
"Spence I think that's more catfish than people that email each other from across the ocean." JJ smiled
"'Online relationships'?" Tony whispered in my ear from behind I could practically hear the smile glinting on his face
"Not like that Tony," I elbowed him in the stomach and Gibbs smiled taking a sip from his coffee
"What do catfish have to do with this?" Ziva asked forever not understanding idioms
"Not literal catfish that live in rivers, people online who pretend to be someone else," Rossi explained
"Alex nearly a quarter have a different nationality to the offender." Reid brought the conversation back
"Yes but technically I'm a different nationality from my brother." I tried to add a sense of reality
"How?" McGee asked
"He works in Scotland and for part of his job he became a Scottish national, he can even vote."
"Are you not gonna mention it?" Spence jumped into the conversation suddenly looking at me
"It?" I questioned not knowing what he was on about
"What happened after the task force." He said like I was an idiot
"What, the bar?" I said before Tony could come with some comment
"Yeah!" Apparently, I'm the idiot in this situation
"Okay the last night of the task force everyone had gone out but I wasn't allowed and Spence didn't want to go, anyway Spence and I were the last ones in the office and he found out I wasn't old enough to drink myself and that MI6 wouldn't let me go out with my team to drink cuz underage agent caught drinking would be the perfect headline and my team at the time- Officer Reeves' team- were famous for breaking rules, so anyway Spence dragged me out for a night out. I didn't have any ID other than my MI6 one so I did a DiNozzo." I knew my team would know and Ziva gave an amused smile while DiNozzo looked offended
"A DiNozzo?" Morgan questioned
"Yeah, oops this isn't my driver's licence," I demonstrated by pulling out my MI6 badge "the doorman couldn't have been much older than Spence and when he saw that and his FBI badge he practically leapt out of the way. Do you wanna tell them about what happened later?"
"Sure. Later on, as we were leaving bear in mind we weren't that drunk a guy came up to me I recognised him but I couldn't place him at first turns out he is one of the suspects from the task force list," Spence started to smile nervously JJ saw it too and looked at me, I gave a reassuring smile I shouldn't have let Spence say this "and he had escaped the team sent to bring him in. Anyway, he blames Alex and tries to shoot them."
I took over from Spence, he was losing his nerve a bit and it was traumatic for him, it's easier if I explain this bit and I can try to lift his mood with it. "And Spence the idiot he is jumps in front of me and gets shot himself. While bleeding out in the alley to keep himself awake he profiles the guy's entire life story just from the way he walked and the way he talked it was nuts. After we used that profile to catch the guy, my director tried to fire me for drinking but Spence got me my job back. Then he taught me the trade, profiling."
"Gibbs they're a team of Kate!" Tony announced excitedly but then a look of worry came onto his face "Wait can you profile me."
"I can profile anyone DiNozzo." Admittedly it's easier with a body. Anyway, we're off-topic, Spence what do you want us to do?"
"Alex, is there anything fresh eyes see?" Morgan asked
"Well, victimology is completely random so the unsub has crossed race, gender, and socioeconomic lines so he isn't acting out a fantasy."
"Victimology?" Ziva inquired
"Unsub?" Gibbs asked unsurely
"He?" Tim sounded shocked
"Fantasy?" Tony questioned
"Victimology is the type of person he chooses to kill. Are they white, are they black, are they female, are they male, how old are they, are they rich, are they poor, what's their work, do they have a record? This tells us about the killer an older easier target suggests someone with a handicap while a younger target or a more risky scenario suggests a younger assailant." Morgan explained
"Unsub is an unknown subject, a suspect," Prentiss added quickly
"We think he's male for many reasons only 1 in six serial killers are female, 5 out of 6 are male. And the way they were killed -strangulation- is very hands-on. Male serial killers tend to want to feel the life leave the victims while female killers prefer poison and less hands-on things. As none of them were sexually assaulted we can presume it is a substitute for sex." Spence explains in a very Spencer way
"Some unsubs have a fantasy they live out with their victim, the victim acting as a substitute for quite often a partner that has left or died." Rossi finished
"The targets are all quite young, fit people. I think the offender is around the same age, all the victims are not native to Hawaii, our marine was stationed here the others were here for work or gap years. Is he targeting them or what?"
"He could be looking for people that are less confident on the island, some natives can look at someone and tell whether they're native or tourist," Tennant said entering the room
"Special agent Tennant!" Gibbs announced striding forward to hug the agent
"Well hey Gibbs, this your team?" Agent Tennant asked
"Yes, it is,"
"Aaron, good to see you." Agent Tennant said looking at Hotch- no one calls him Aaron do they have a history? I looked at Spence who just shrugged and raised his eyebrows equally confused.
"You too Jane," Hotch replied small smile gracing his lips
"Well my team are itching to get out of paperwork so do you want to search the victims' houses?" Agent Tennant
"One of each of our teams?" Rossi suggested
"Tony you'll get on well with Jesse." Tennant began
"Morgan you and Tony have similar backgrounds," I tell them thinking about their police backgrounds
"If it's possible Agent Hotchner I would like to work with Agent Prentiss?" Ziva asked unexpectedly
"Of course, Jane which of your agents would work with them best?"
"I'll send Agent Tara."
"Agent McGee, can you work with Agent Rossi?" Hotch asked McGee, his eyes looked like they were about to bust out of his head
"Ye- Of course- I- I would love to." McGee stuttered, I think he's read Rossi's books
"Agent Rossi, am I right in saying you were a marine?"
"No such thing as an ex-marine Jane," Gibbs said smiling at Rossi
"Of course Gibbs, I'll send Agent Holman."
"I guess that leaves the bosses," I say
"JJ stay here and speak to the remaining family members," Hotch ordered
"Alex and I will work on a geographical profile and some other ideas." Reid finished as everyone stood and went to their teams
