Dan shut the door softly behind him as he entered the home, he didn't bother with the lights. His sights were set on the bathroom but he froze when he saw soft light radiating from the living room. He looked in to see West sat in the arm chair under the warm light of a lamp. The dimly lit room allowed the slight iridescence of his skin to radiate as he sat patiently with his boney hands set atop of the closed leather book in his lap. "Dan," his voice was steady, Dan's stomach sank. He felt like he was about to get told off by a parent, "Herb, hey. You're up late." West nodded, "I wanted to wait for you." Dan's anxiety grew more, "Why? Is something the matter." Herbert gestured for Dan to come to him, he of complied unquestioningly (at least not questioning aloud). Dan sat down when Herbert moved to the couch and patted beside him for Dan to sit. He again complied. "Why are you doing this?" Herbert asked bluntly. Dan tensed, "Doing what?" His voice quivered in a slightly defensive tone as he gripped the sleeves of his heavy overcoat. "These hookups, don't think I don't know where you've been going, Dan." Dan sighed, despite how confident Herbert sounded, he wasn't entirely correct. Without receiving an answer, he continued, "You're not even enjoying them. You always come home exhausted, and dirty, sometimes even bruised!" Dan didn't watch his room-mates face as his brow furrowed with worry. "You know you don't need to do this. So why force yourself?" Dan gave a weak shrug. "I don't know Herb," he pulled a large, full, envelope from his inner pocket. "I don't know why I keep doing this.." He trailed off as he placed it into West's lap. "Here's my side of the rent, by the way." He stood without a word, not leaving anytime for Herbert to think about what just happened. He hurried to the bathroom for a much needed shower. Shutting the door quickly when he heard Herbert calling for him.
