"There had been an issue with the time of death, Ducky had gotten nearly an hour earlier but he realised that when the president's doctor had heard Trapp had just had lunch with the president he rushed off to check on him and didn't return for an hour only then did he call TOD. Ducky went off on one of his stories and Gibbs rescued her. She learned about rule 3-" DiNozzo continued to explain
"never be unreachable," I exclaimed I knew that I knew that one
"Nope, don't believe what you're told, double check," Gibbs said
"Because she had been told one TOD and it was really Ducky's TOD," McGee explained
"I say again, Gibbs why have duplicates of rules? Also isn't that rule 8?" I questioned the SAC
"No rule 8 is never take anything for granted," McGee recalled
"They mean the same thing."
"Gibbs is an odd man," DiNozzo whispered
"Playing with fire DiNozzo." Gibbs had heard
"Back to the story, she didn't like me sitting in the president's chair. Gibbs just gave out orders to start bagging and tagging. She had never done it so we had to show her, Gibbs asked if the president had sat at his desk and she threw sass at him."
"It wasn't sass DiNozzo."
"Jethro it was," Ducky appeared in the bullpen
"Ducky! What are you doing up here?" I ask the elderly doctor
"Yeah, and where is the autopsy gremlin?"
"Mr Palmer is on a supply run, I don't have any guests and I heard talk of Caitlin." He pulled a chair up to Gibbs' desk and sat down
"Yeah Ducky, Toy was just telling Alex about when he met her on air force one," McGee told the ME
"If I remember correctly she was sick."
"Yeah, we were bagging and tagging Trapp's lunch with the president and Kate had the flu and she threw up."
"Gibbs made me process it, I even had to run it through major mass spec!" Abby exclaims appearing in the bullpen
"Hey, Abbs," I say moving up as she sits next to me on my perch "Please tell me he didn't do what I think he did?"
"He made her throw up into an evidence bag."
"Gibbs you really know how to treat a woman."
"I think the 3 ex-wives may have told you that."
"DiNozzo."
"Sorry boss. She had the flu that had kept Major Kerry off of the plane. They had been a little more than colleagues." DiNozzo explained "I had interviewed the stewards and told Boss what I had found-"
"Which was nothing, you and Ducky were taking photos of each other."
"Well yeah but we moved the body to the aft ramp for a fast getaway and because Kate had been told to turn it over at Andrews. But Gibbs had a plan. They put me in a body bag and let the FBI think I was Trapp until they got away with the real body. The problem with their plan was," Gibbs was laughing "When my phone rang to tell me they were away, the FBI realised I wasn't a dead body and chucked me out of the van and onto the road." DiNozzo continued and I couldn't help but laugh as did Abby next to me and Ziva across from me
"THEN I had to ride back with Agent Axelrod at 1 AM and search Trapp's apartments!" DiNozzo explained
"I examined the body for needle marks which took me all night, Gibbs fell asleep on a table."
"I collected stuff from Trapp's apartment and brought it back to Abby, she was looking at the uniform to see if the poison had come from there. I took Abby away from that to look at all the vitamins and health food he had," DiNozzo explained "I thought that's probably where it would have come from. Abby let me nap on her futon."
"Abbs stop letting my agents sleep on the job," Gibbs told the forensic scientist
"It was like 3 am and he hadn't slept yet!" She exclaimed I agreed with her
"He can sleep when he's dead," Gibbs uttered
"Gibbs with you that will be sooner than Tony would like," I told him
"Ducky said he'd had a brain fart-" DiNozzo said in very DiNozzo terms
"No, I said he had suffered a cerebral embolism in the parietal lobe and had several clots around the renal artery. None of this was unusual but in a young healthy aviator? that was another story." Ducky explained
"I found no drugs other than epinephrine-" Abby added
"But that would have been used when they tried to resuscitate him," I said
"Yeah, none of the food was poisoned. I joked with Kate about the secret service throwing themselves in front of the president's diet." a fond smile graced Abby's lips
"It looked like a natural death." Ducky summed up their findings
"Gibbs kept Kate back and asked to follow the president back on air force one."
"Gibbs asked?" I was shocked
"Yeah, first and last time in his life."
"Did he use the word please?"
"Yep, he said 'Mind if I tag along? Please?' He thought she was going to say no." DiNozzo quoted
"Wow."
"I know, we were equally shocked. Anyway, she let him but he had to leave his gun here and he told us to keep looking. Kate went for a drink and to end it with Major Kerry but we found him dead the next day, same as Trapp."
"Poison," I said 98% sure of my prediction
"Wait and see, Gibbs thought that an attacker might be posing as a reporter like in the movie."
"I found the poison it was oxyuranus scutellatis from a highly toxic Aussie snake."
"I was right!"
"Yeah, the Major received a heavier dose than the commander. We told Gibbs this, Abby said that the poison was hard to detect and I told him I had distracted her so she missed it."
"Tony how many times do I have to tell you, that wasn't your fault."
"But it was Abby. She found DMSO in the uniform-"
"That helped the venom be absorbed by the skin?"
"Yeah, it was in the collars and the cuffs."
"Kerry was the target but because of the flu, he didn't put it on until he met Kate. The next question was how did the terrorists get the poison into the uniforms?"
"The commander had gotten tips from the major like where to get his uniform cleaned, where to eat, where to drink," Gibbs explained
"So they used the same dry cleaner." I made the connection as to where they were juiced
"Gibbs gave the news of the major's death to Kate cold, we had to know if she was involved. She called him a bastard." DiNozzo and Abby laughed
"Gibbs worked out that by killing an aide another steps in as does the plane." Ducky was adding to Tony's explanation
"Earlier he had thought there were some differences between the 2 planes, Kate told him that the biggest one was that the locks in this plane were keyed on the other they were carded. They killed a reporter so that everyone was focusing on that and not the guy grabbing a weapon from the armoury, the locks were keyed and he had stolen one in the confusion. Kate and Gibbs figured out the diversion and the keys to the armoury, Gibbs sent kate to cover the president while he got a gun from the armoury. The guy was heading towards the president when Gibbs stopped him and he started shooting, Gibbs shot him. Kate resigned from the secret service and told them about her and Major Kerry, Gibbs hired her and thanked Baer -Kate's old boss. She worked for us until she..."
"Died." I finished
"Yeah, she was my first partner here, I still miss her."
"That shows you care Tony. so that was how you met Kate"
