ep three: secured june

Start from the beginning

Seventeen's Aju Nice. Many exclaimed their want at the first artists immediately. But June kept quiet, thinking of separating himself from the choice if possible for he already performed their song in the all-star level test. The association between him and the group might not benefit him, for fans might believe he is only fitting in one certain light.

Love Me Right by EXO is a song that drove him crazy in 2015. All the girls in his homeroom class would play it out loud as he ran away from the song. It was genuinely good but his memories drove him to eye it cautiously.

Of course, BTS was a must. They headlined Kpop after all. But the song choice of Danger had him tilting his head. He might practice and mimic the movements well. But he knew of the whispers of his image in Boys Planet and it greatly contrasts this. Although as he heard Lee SeungHwan sing out the lyrics to a few, he knew that the boy would suit it greatly.

To perform a group consisting of idols who were around the same age can be difficult but can also be easy. NCT Dream with its seven members took the world by storm with their comeback of Hot Sauce. And in the current lineup, it was the song he was leaning for. He quietly hummed out the lyrics. Cha Woongi heard it and quietly clapped for him in a cute manner that almost made him blush.

Wanna One was the group formed by a survival show he was impressed by. The pressures and manipulated chemistry of sealing boy members together through votes is a chemistry experiment. But the group proved the possibilities for future trainees after their song Burn It Up. But with their mentor's warning of difficulty, it had June pull back the option in his head.

The next group mentioned was a rather fresher group, but not too new to classify them as rookies. Stray Kids had a distinct sound they produced over time. And it may have taken the public a few years to understand, it made them authentic with songs like Back Door to prove it. And that's the dream of any group — to be remembered uniquely even after their hype dies down. As he looked at Jiwoong, he saw the immediate interest and believed that maybe this was his hyung's top choice.

Many girl groups are proving to be the spine of Kpop. He knew of many girl groups lasting in the charts more or having a more solid fanbase. But despite their success, most boys shied away from covering their songs due to pitch and differences in style. So for Boys Planet to add Blackpink's Kill This Love, it froze him to his stance. It would take a strong group to give the song justice.

"The high-ranking trainees will have a priority to choose their teammates." The huge benefit had many in shock and surprise. It put many to a disadvantage also for those ranked higher in skill can group together with their acquaintanceship during practices.

As June stood at his rank, he knew there was a possibility he might get chosen or he might choose. And both these opportunities worried him immensely. For one had the trust to be dependent on a group. Meanwhile the other is to understand balance and value potential.

The first ranking from Group K chose first. And his choice of Sung Hanbin brought them all to worry. Could they defeat the two? People saw them as indestructible. But personally, in silence, he saw them as healthy competition. They might be powerful and skilled, but many can hold the same potential if given the chance. And this was a chance. Lee Hoe Taek was wise in choosing his members. They all gave them the balance to choose whatever song. And to have that chance is a greater edge that could help them come out on top.

The same went on for Group G. They came with members that brought out promising potential, such as number 2 adding to the lineup.

But he only paid attention keenly when Kim Jiwoong went up. Many wanted to work with him after his all-star level test. He brought out the sensual vibe that was going around Kpop more, a mature approach, skipping out the aegyo musts. And when he first called out, "Han Yujin," people applauded. It would be a performance with strong members and aesthetically pleasing physiques to match them.

He nodded at all the picks so far, ones he'd approve of himself. But even if they formed a bond in the short amount of time since introduction, he was still struck by surprise. "Lee June." There were hollers going around as he went beside Jiwoong, trainees speaking about how they'd look together in the popular BL dramas. "Why'd you choose me?"

As they went to their places on the platforms, June asked the older boy the question. And his raised eyebrow suggested he wasn't impressed with June's lack of confidence and disbelief at his decision to work with him. "Trust me, I'm asking the first group why they didn't go on the chance to swipe you away." June, if you don't believe there are people who know you must debut, then you must be blind. Because you don't only bring talent and visuals, but a certain magnetic pull we can't turn away from. I can't turn away from it. Jiwoong kept most of his thoughts in his head, not wanting cameras to catch unnecessary comments and twist them.

And this extended to the interview. He tried his best to choose words the world won't misinterpret. But if they did, he said his truth. "Lee Hoe Taek might take June. I was worried because I already had a song in mind that would match us both." He chuckled at his actions to grant his wish, knowing that the camera might have not caught it — but the lack of witness does not erase the event. "So I begged in my mind that he won't. Repeatedly."
