Bella's POV
After a little while of sitting by the fire, the wind starts to pick up. Elaine is insistent that we put the fire out, in fear that it might spread to the nearby forest. I agree with her and Edward states he will only do so if we get into the tent.
I am shaking slightly when we first get in. Elaine sits in the corner, you can tell she is cold but she doesn't say anything about it. Instead, she pulls out a book from the bag she brought and starts to read. The light is getting dimmer so I know this distraction will only help her for a little bit.
"Are you sure you don't want any of the blankets?" I ask, she had added the blanket Carlisle had packed for her to my side of the tent. I had planned on putting it back on her later on, when she was sleeping, knowing she is too stubborn to take it back when she was still awake.
"It's honestly not too bad when we are in the tent. I think I will be okay for now, Bells." She stated, looking up from her book as I let out a small shiver. "Get under the blankets, hun. We have a long night ahead of us." With this, she went back to reading her book.
" Just let me know if you change your mind," I state, and she hums in response.
Edward then opens the flap of the tent and climbs inside, with his entrance, the wind enters the tent ever so slightly, causing a violent shiver to go through Elaine and I instantly feel bad.
"Lane, just get under the covers with Bella, please," Edward says, sitting down as far away from Elaine as possible, not wanting to make her colder than she already is.
" I don't want to make her any colder than she already is. I am still cooler in body temperature than a normal human, I just get cold easier than normal because I'm not used to it." She states, teeth clattering a little.
Edward's POV
Cellphone reception is spotty up here, to say the least, but there is one good spot on top of some large rocks across the clearing where our tent is. Elaine is insistent on going over to this spot to talk to Carlisle and I am just waiting for him to get back on the phone after they speak and chew my head off.
I am trying to block the wind the best I can from hitting her already freezing body. She has on the jacket Carlisle gave her, along with her own. He had stuffed the pockets with two pairs of mittens, which she had layered up. She was wearing thick cabin socks as well, different from her normal thin socks and gym shoes.
" Elaine, speed it up. I cannot physically take the sound of your teeth chattering anymore. You might break a tooth." I hear Carlisle speak up on the other end of the phone,
"Listen to Edward. We'll all be back together soon. Get warm and stay warm. The blankets I gave you should help."
I was about to rat her out, tell him that she had given those blankets to Bella, but the look on Elaine's face makes me decide against it.
"I will, my love. Please just be careful on the battlefield tomorrow. I will be here to protect Bella in case something happens-"
"Nothing is going to happen. We won't let it." I hear him say softly.
"I love you to the moon and back." She whispers into the phone.
" I love you to the sun and back."
Elaine's POV
We had gotten back into the tent about twenty minutes ago. I was shaking harder at this point, not recovering from the cold wind that Edward had tried so desperately to protect me from. I sit in the corner, the light is gone and I can no longer use reading to distract me from the bitter cold.
