A Forgotten, but Unforgiving Temptation

Start from the beginning

Letting a long sigh out, you released the pressure inside of you, focusing your attention on catching your breath instead. You clicked your tongue at your blurry vision as you opened your eyes; you had already fainted once earlier and here was your body inching towards another collapse if you kept going.

You gaze at the multiple rows of red plants lined before you, their petals wilted and shivered, barely hiding their waisting bodies in half-cocoons. You frowned at sight, glancing down at the control panel and grunting at the readings. It was not enough, not even close.

Clenching your jaw, you repositioned your hands on the sensors and closed your eyes. Concentrating, you pulled and tugged at the remnant of energy inside of you, ignoring your labored breathing and aching chest at every heart beat.

To hell with it, you thought angrily, if your body was going to give up once more, you would at least make sure to make it worth it.

Faintly, you heard the automatic sliding doors open and close behind you, the slow footsteps of someone walking towards you. Your brows knitted closer; both because you felt annoyed by the disturbance and because you focused on not losing concentration.

'I will be out soon, Doctor,' you calmly spoke. However, the footsteps kept getting closer, distracting you more and more. 'What is it?' you asked a hint of irritation in your voice.

'Nothing. Or am I not permitted to check on you whenever I wish to?' answered a low tone voice right behind you that you recognized immediately

Your eyelids shot open and you inhaled in surprise.

'Knives...' you simply whispered with inquietude, as you felt him stand right behind you, his every inhale making his chest graze your back.

You went to turn around to face him, your heart racing for a whole different reason now. But he didn't allow you to; two of his bladed wires appearing and wrapping around your wrists with their blunt side and immobilizing you in your position in the blink of an eye.

You knew better than to struggle and simply stood still, trying to pace your breathing and racing thoughts. Was he upset? He didn't sound like it, but then again, his mood could change in a split second. You didn't think you did anything wrong, or at least, you couldn't remember. What did he want from you? Did he want you to accompany him to another 'connection attempt'? He would have just sent someone to get you if that was the case, so why-?

Your train of thought was cut short as you spotted his left arm reach from under your own and you gasped sharply as he bended it so his hand was flat in between your breasts, pushing you backward into him. Through both his and your skin-tight suits, you could feel every defined muscle of his chest and abdomen and how they flexed and moved when his left hand traced upwards, passing your collarbones and unto your neck.

Holding your breath when his fingers made contact with your bare skin, sending wild sparks over your shoulders and upper back, you released it hesitantly as his right hand found its way on your waist.

'So, this is what you've been doing,' he spoke coldly with amusement, his breath against your ear sending shivers down your spine as he looked over your right shoulder unto the control panel.

'How devoted of you, as always, Thess,' he said alluringly, his fingers on your neck pushing your chin slightly up, exposing more of it.

You squeezed your eyes shut, feeling his right hand leave your waist and grab the zipper at the back of your suit's collar, starting to slowly glide it down.

Oh, how you wished you could abandon yourself in the moment, enjoy his presence, his touch without feeling the bitter aftertaste that inevitably came. How you yearned for this man's love, for any crumb he would give- and how he knew that perfectly well and had you wrapped around his fingers; everything driving you crazier with every year passing.

You felt his sultry breaths against the side of your neck and shoulder where he had pushed your suit off, leaving sparks as he let his lips barely trail your skin; this man played you just as well as he played the piano, and you never had the strength or the will to resist him. He bit into the crook of your neck, making you softly cry out. He dug his sharp canines deeper into your flesh and you dove even deeper into your want and deluded hopes for this man as your cry morphed into a drawn-out whimpering moan.

When he released you, you exhaled and tried to catch your breath between small pants. He ran his tongue over the fresh markings, licking away the blood he had drawn and sending electric-like currents down your still immobilized arms.

He hummed with satisfaction, raising his head and pulling your zipper all the way back up. You heard him take several steps towards the doors, only retracting his wires when he was already half-way through the room. You slid to the ground slowly while gripping to the control panel, trying to keep yourself from looking too weak in front of him, but knowing your legs would have given out before he had left the room.

The doors glided open and you waited for them to close right after, but they didn't.

'Oh, do continue what you were doing Thess.' He threw at you casually, the smile on his face audible. But you knew that wasn't a suggestion; it was an order.

As the sound of the doors closing resonated in the room, all tension left your body, leaving you almost limp sitting on the floor. You pushed your forehead against the cold metallic base of the control panel, dazed eyes absent-mindedly looking at the floor.

Would that man one day truly love you? How much more did you have to give; what more did you have to do?

You sighed. What was the point of even thinking about this again? It would only make you sad. There was nowhere, no one else for you in this word apart from Knives. And there was nothing you could do but keep on trying, however hard, and hope that perhaps, one day, you would be good enough. If not good enough to love, at least good enough so that the hatred and abhorrence in his eyes when he looked at you would dissipate.

Taking a long and deep inhale you rose to your feet, using the panel as support. You gazed at the red plants before you. He cared so much about them. Would he have cared just as much if you had been born as one of them instead? You could only wonder melancholically; you would never know.

Pushing your hands against the sensors, you closed your eyes and fiercely pulled at the barely noticeable energy inside of you. You didn't want to spend the night thinking about these sad things anymore, and sleep wasn't allowed, so might as well push your body past its limits and rest in the sweet numbness of unconsciousness.
