Chapter Twenty-Three: Entry Sixteen
Date: March 17-18th, 2018
In no time, we arrive at the pier. Immediately, I notice all of the lights. In classic carnival fashion, there are the colorful flag banners strung up everywhere. My eyes are drawn to the large Ferris wheel located all the way on the end of the pier.
"Come on, Laney!" the triplets shout out. They grab my hand and pull me along to get our tickets.
The carnival attendant seems completely uninterested as he hands out our tickets. We pay it no mind and officially make our way into the carnival. We're bombarded by tons of different games.
"Ring toss!" Lena exclaims.
This results in everyone walking over to go to the booth. The booth is a fabric tent with red and white stripes. In the booth, there are an assortment of bottles layered up behind the kiosk worker. The prizes are gigantic stuffed animals.
As I'm watching Lena give the correct amount of tickets, my arm is pulled. I turn and see Raine is the one dragging me away. We stop a few feet away from the group before she speaks.
"Spill."
I'm a bit confused at first until I realize what she's talking about.
"What do you want to know?"
"Did you guys...you know?" she questions with an incredulous expression on her face.
My cheeks heat up at her directness, leaving me only able to respond with a nod. I bury my face in my hands as she begins to squeal.
"Baby Dela is all grown up!"
I blush even harder and can't keep myself from thinking of the night in question.
Tell me if you ever want to stop.
He was so gentle and he took care of me so well. He asked me before he did anything and made sure I was 100% okay with it. I really felt loved.
"Judging by the look on your face, I can guess how it went."
To avoid giving anymore details, I quickly walk back over to the group. Leanne has taken over the game to win a prize for Lena. Just as I approach, she throws the last ring. It bounces off the top of one bottle before coming to a rest on a different bottle. Everyone cheers while Lena picks out her prize. She decides on a panda and the clerk hands it to her.
We rush through all of the other booths. By them time we get to the end of the pier, everyone has arms full of prizes. The largest prize that I accumulated was a black horse that Eli helped me win. We both decided to name it Nightmare and it is almost as big as me.
Currently, we are in line for the Ferris Wheel. The triplets, Eli, Raine, and I are waiting for our turn. We watch as they start loading people on. I hop into one of the cabins and take my seat. Before I know it, Raine has hopped in and closed the door.
"Details!" she demands after the Ferris Wheel begins moving.
I know that there is no escape this time, so I get into the story. I explain almost every detail, omitting anything that I'm not comfortable saying out loud and ignoring her squeals. I've finished telling her everything before the ride is over.
"So, you're happy?" she asks.
I smile and nod. I thought that I would be a bit nervous, but I'm actually really happy. Elijah is truly the one that I love and I know he loves and cares for me, too.
"What about you?" I question. "Have you talked to Kenneth since everything happened?"
Her mood obviously shifts a bit and makes me regret asking. After the whole situation and us not talking, I haven't heard about anything happening between them.
