Many looked at Mu Qing in surprise as the man glared, silently daring them to speak up. No one did out of respect for either him or Xie Lian. Well, except Qi Rong who laughed at him.

"I should have killed you." Mu Qing murmured.

"You should have." Hua Cheng wholeheartedly agreed.

It‌ ‌was‌ ‌only‌ ‌when‌ ‌the‌ ‌words‌ ‌left‌ ‌his‌ ‌lips‌ ‌did‌ ‌he‌ ‌realize‌ ‌it‌ ‌was‌ ‌improper‌ ‌and‌ ‌shut‌ ‌up,‌ ‌because‌ ‌there‌ ‌were‌ ‌already‌ ‌people‌ ‌who‌ ‌instantly‌ ‌remembered‌ ‌that‌ ‌Mu‌ ‌Qing‌ ‌used‌ ‌to‌ ‌be‌ ‌Xie‌ ‌Lian's‌ ‌personal‌ ‌attendant,‌ ‌and‌ ‌took‌ ‌care‌ ‌of‌ ‌his‌ ‌daily‌ ‌living,‌ ‌which‌ ‌was‌ ‌how‌ ‌he‌ ‌had‌ ‌known‌ ‌such‌ ‌details.‌ ‌

Mu Qing frowned at the reminder (of his betrayal to the one person who wholeheartedly loved him as a friend) and looked away.

Many‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌officials‌ ‌couldn't‌ ‌help‌ ‌but‌ ‌think,‌ ‌just‌ ‌Golden‌ ‌Belts‌ ‌alone‌ ‌and‌ ‌there‌ ‌were‌ ‌over‌ ‌forty,‌ ‌this‌ ‌Highness‌ ‌the‌ ‌Crown‌ ‌Prince‌ ‌really‌ ‌lived‌ ‌an‌ ‌extraordinarily‌ ‌luxurious‌ ‌life.‌

Xie Lian looked embarrassed, not having realized just how blessed he was in the past. He might have known he was rich but not exactly until this video.

 Not‌ ‌just‌ ‌the‌ ‌others,‌ ‌even‌ ‌Xie‌ ‌Lian‌ ‌himself‌ ‌when‌ ‌thinking‌ ‌back‌ ‌felt‌ ‌rather‌ ‌embarrassed.‌ ‌Back‌ ‌then,‌ ‌he'd‌ ‌change‌ ‌into‌ ‌a‌ ‌different‌ ‌extravagant‌ ‌attire‌ ‌everyday,‌ ‌and‌ ‌his‌ ‌belts‌ ‌changed‌ ‌each‌ ‌time,‌ ‌matching‌ ‌with‌ ‌whatever‌ ‌outfit‌ ‌he‌ ‌had‌ ‌on,‌ ‌unlike‌ ‌now,‌ ‌where‌ ‌in‌ ‌an‌ ‌entire‌ ‌year‌ ‌he'd‌ ‌only‌ ‌have‌ ‌the‌ ‌three‌ ‌sets‌ ‌of‌ ‌clothing‌ ‌to‌ ‌wear‌ ‌over‌ ‌and‌ ‌over‌ ‌again.‌ ‌Those‌ ‌three‌ ‌sets‌ ‌all‌ ‌looked‌ ‌exactly‌ ‌the‌ ‌same‌ ‌too,‌ ‌and‌ ‌with‌ ‌just‌ ‌one‌ ‌look‌ ‌people‌ ‌must‌ ‌think‌ ‌him‌ ‌so‌ ‌poor‌ ‌he'd‌ ‌only‌ ‌have‌ ‌one‌ ‌set‌ ‌of‌ ‌clothes‌ ‌to‌ ‌wear.‌ ‌

"I'm fine." Xie Lian said the moment he saw someone open their mouth. "I'd prefer living like this, honestly."

Yes, he preferred it because it helps him believe that his current actions were retribution of his past mistakes. Besides, it was so far from his past it gave him comfort and even sometimes helped him forget about his painful past.

Jun‌ ‌Wu‌ ‌asked,‌ ‌"And‌ ‌where‌ ‌are‌ ‌they‌ ‌now,‌ ‌do‌ ‌you‌ ‌remember?"‌ ‌ ‌

Xie‌ ‌Lian‌ ‌and‌ ‌Feng‌ ‌Xin‌ ‌both‌ ‌"eh"-ed‌ ‌silently.‌ ‌

Xie‌ ‌Lian‌ ‌rubbed‌ ‌his‌ ‌forehead,‌ ‌"Ahem,‌ ‌not‌ ‌really.‌ ‌They're‌ ‌things‌ ‌from‌ ‌eight‌ ‌hundred‌ ‌years‌ ‌ago‌ ‌after‌ ‌all.‌ ‌I've‌ ‌long‌ ‌forgotten‌ ‌where‌ ‌they've‌ ‌gone."‌ ‌ ‌

Not‌ ‌just‌ ‌because‌ ‌they‌ ‌were‌ ‌tossed‌ ‌out,‌ ‌but‌ ‌the‌ ‌main‌ ‌reason‌ ‌was‌ ‌because‌ ‌he‌ ‌and‌ ‌Feng‌ ‌Xin‌ ‌often‌ ‌pawned‌ ‌items‌ ‌off‌ ‌whenever‌ ‌things‌ ‌got‌ ‌tight.‌ ‌Too‌ ‌much‌ ‌were‌ ‌pawned‌ ‌away‌ ‌and‌ ‌whether‌ ‌if‌ ‌there‌ ‌were‌ ‌any‌ ‌belts‌ ‌left‌ ‌he‌ ‌really‌ ‌couldn't‌ ‌remember.‌ ‌
