I remember how I went on stage to sing the song I practiced so many weeks before it. I wasn't afraid. I already knew all of the lyrics. And, after that, nothing.
I hear them whispering while feeling my hands tied to my back and my legs tied to something. I hit the leg of the chair lightly. Wood, not steel. Dumb decision. If I want to, I can break it in the course of a millisecond.
I force myself into opening my eyes, keeping them as wide as I can, and fixating them. A warm-brown skined boy is whispering secrets to another ginger boy. The first boy looks similar to the gentleman I killed a few nights ago. They stop.
I can't figure out if they they are mermaids or sirens or mere people. They look at each other. It took me a while to figure out, but now, I did.
"I thought spoiled-bloods weren't allowed to interfere in the war." I say. They're half sirens, half humans. The ginger boy chooses to shut up. Wise.
"I thought dogs like you couldn't talk, but here we are, having a conversation." Says the other. I giggle. Nice comeback, made up pretty quickly.
I frown, and they give signs of leaving. I wonder why. I smirk, and they take a last glance at me.
"Leaving me alone already?" I ask, whimpering, but they don't respond to my mocking. They slam the door behind them.
I try to stretch, but I accidentally break the rope tying my wrists. Guess I have to pretend I'm still tied and see what will happen.
I hear talking behind the door; beside the two boys' voices, there's a more powerful one, who's yelling. I wait for them to come in again. For a while, they don't.
A girl enters the room, escorted by the other sirens. She seems a bit younger than me, and she has rose-gold hair. She looks at both of them, and then at me. I'm still waiting for the strong voice to enter.
"So this is the puny little thing that killed half of my people, right?" She says with a thick Russian accent. "God, you're all worthless."
"With all the due respect, milady, he's not like the others. He managed to kill Dante, and you know my brother was..."
She frowns, coming closer to me. Just then, I think about freeing myself. One... two... three... What the heck? I thought I broke the ropes...
"Dante was a weak split tail," She continues, probably feeling no mercy towards the lost companion. "Do you know how many battles we lost because of his weakness? Huh? We lost at least -"
"With all the due respect, Miss, can I go home now?" I ask, sarcastic.
"Shut up!"
"никто не говорит мне заткнуться!" I yell, and she seems impressed. I do know a bit of Russian, and the best sentences I can perfectly say are disrespectful, like this one (nobody tells me to shut up). I'm a menace, I know.
"You're playing smart, huh?" She grabs my face, and I can't do anything. "Lock her up until she learns to behave."
"Um... it's him!"
"Dear, you're not fooling anyone."
