Mirror shards in our skin

Start from the beginning

'Mercy comes at a price Ghosty, remember,' said Wolfwood next you, as if those words could ever explain what was laid before your eyes.

Mercy? Did he mean Vash's morals? Was this what happened to him when he spared someone life; they just turned around and hurt him? Why? Why would he allow himself to get hurt when he was such a good shot? Why put people's life before his safety, his own life?!

Anger and outrage were starting to boil inside of you. You felt furious. You wanted to yell at Vash for his stupid ways; yell at Wolfwood for allowing him to get hurt while he was there. Hell! You wanted to yell at the entirety of No Man's Land for ever even thinking that hurting this man was anything else than a sin!

'Luck...'

The blond man's low voice, heavy with a guilt that was almost palpable, brough you back. He was crouching on one knee in front of you, his upper body now covered from your gaze by a shirt. He was slowly picking back the medical aid kit on the ground, but his eyes never left yours, looking at you with such an apological expression you would have thought you had been the one hurt to the extend he was, not him.

His eyes quickly darted to the preacher by your side, glaring with harsh reprimand. Probably at not having listened and hidden you from the sight when he asked him to, you assumed.

'Welp,' Wolfwood huffed a cold laugh, letting a cloud of smoke escaped his lips as he turned to walk towards the door, 'it's not like she wouldn't have found out eventually, Spikey.'

Heavy silence filled the room as the sound of the door closing resonated. You kept staring down, afraid that looking into Vash's deep blue eyes would break whatever hold on your emotions you had. You wanted to say so much, do so much. A headache was building up as you forced all those thoughts back, even if the images of the blond's man scars wouldn't leave you, no matter how hard you tried to chase them away.

You heard him sigh before he got up and gently handed you the Medi kit which you grabbed awkwardly, still feeling under shock a bit.

'Can you start alone? I'll be there in a minute, ok?' he softly said, giving you a gentle pat on the head before he headed for the bathroom.

The light sparks running down your scalp convinced you to stop standing there in your daze. Breathing deeply, you made your way to your bed and sat down on it. Slowly, you removed the still moist bandages around your left upper arm. Opening the kit, you took out some sterile gauze and went to dry the wound, wincing a little at the sensation at first. You heard some metallic clangs coming from the bathroom, but decided you would rather focus on cleaning your injuries instead of letting your brain fall back into the endless turmoil you had just gotten yourself out of.

Your wounds seemed to healing well from what you could tell. The redness around the stiches and edges of the lacerations had considerably gone down. However, even with the multiple stiches you could still tell it would take quite a while to fully heal, and the final look would be quite gnarly.

Well, there was nothing you could do but keep them clean and be grateful they didn't hurt too much anymore, you thought with a sigh as you started rolling a bandage around your arm.

Just as you finished tightening up your work, Vash walked out of the bathroom. You looked up at him, instantly noticing his leather covered left arm. You now knew why it looks so strange and why you barely feel any heat or sparks from it whenever you'd touched it. Glancing up at him as he came towards you, you exchanged a small awkward smile with him, the air still uneasy between the two of you.

He sat down next to you and you simply shifted to give him better access to your right arm. Sparks bloomed under his finger tips as he undid your bandages without a word spoken. His touch was gentle and careful, almost as if he feared hurting you just by touching you.
