Loving to Hell and Back

Start from the beginning

'We'll split up, I'll create an opening,' calmly stated the blond man to your side, 'Luck, you-'

He couldn't finish his sentence; a bullet grazing his cheek, only avoiding digging straight through his head because of his lighting-fast reaction speed and instincts.

All of you raised your heads in unison in an attempt to spot the culprit. It was hard to see at first for you, the ceiling of the room clouded in darkness and continuingly rising smoke. However, it seemed the two men next to you had no trouble spotting the guard you replaced as John on a frail walkway hanging several dozens of feet in the air. They both shot at him, forcing him to run and take cover behind a panel.

'Split!'

At the blond criminal's words, him and Wolfwood ran in opposite directions. Instinctively, your body followed Vash, running behind him as he went back in between the blazing crates, but kept going further this time, longing the side of the room from the left.

You knew he was looking for an opening, a clear view on the enemy without revealing his position. But that was all but hopeful considering how Gazelle probably knew this space as well as the back of his hand and wasn't afraid to lunch small scale explosive rockets inside of it.

'Vash the Stampede,' Gazelle's booming yet calm voice echoed further up from where you stood, 'I was planning on going on a good ol' fashioned hunt for you, but you came directly to me instead. Are you just a simple-minded fool, or just really impatient?'

Gunshots resonated from the opposite side of the room, towards where the priest had run to. You silently hoped he would be fine, even if the situation on this side wasn't to be desired either.

'What do you want with me?'

As he asked, Vash hurried to change position, running over two crates closer to where the voice of the Gun'ho Gun had come from.

You followed him, not questioning his instincts, especially since a blast hit directly your previous spot in the instant following. You gulped; this Gazelle man was absolutely insane.

'Nothing personal Stampede. You've been recking havoc on No Man's Land for long enough, always bringing destruction and death wherever you go; you're a bloodthirsty criminal that must be eliminated to achieve peace!'

You frowned at those words; what did that man know about Vash? If anyone was bringing destruction and death it was this crazy bastard himself!

But the blond gunman next to you seemed unaffected by the defamatory speech, preferring to focus on glancing over the racks you both hid behind in an attempt to spot his adversary.

'It was really just my chance to fall on someone that was willing to provide me with the resources to hunt you down. You have very powerful enemies, Stampede; you are quite the lucky fella to have made it this far, I'll admit that.'

The threatening man sounded extremely near, making your body tense up and heart rate pick up even more. Looking over when Vash ducked back down and sensing his eyes on him, you glanced at him in return.

He gestured to you, something about him going to face off with that beast of a man and for you to take refuge further away.

You wanted to argue, contest and yell at him for once again choosing such a self-sacrificing plan for himself. And yet, you knew this was not the moment to do so, as much as it frustrated you. All you could do is agree for now and hope Vash would quickly take the upper hand before he got hurt.

Nodding, your lips pursing unwillingly, you got up. However, you gasped at the sight of the towering man standing just around fifty feet away, carrying his giant rocket-launching revolver with one hand. He was facing right where you stood and you realized he probably knew Vash was there and was just playing around with him before he shot one of those explosive ammunition at point blank toward him.
