Still, unlike Shinsou, there was no reason for you to believe that he had any immunity to your powers.
You lurched forward, ready to rush him head-on. He couldn't attack without using his hands. In the split-second that he lowered them to use his Quirk, you'd make sure he heard your voice. In a way, he'd essentially just cornered himself.
You'd almost completely bridged the distance between you, and he still wasn't attacking. It was weird for someone like Katsuki to be on the defensive, but... after seeing how your first match had ended, you supposed it was only natural that he be a bit wary.
At least-
"EAT SHIT!"
-that's what you'd thought.
A rippling blast knocked you off your feet. Your words had been caught in your throat, so close to escaping, but you hadn't spoken quickly. Or rather-he'd used the sound of his own, screaming voice to mask out yours and release an attack. You'd just barely managed to catch yourself by the palms and prevent face-planting onto the arena, and then another explosion set off.
Then another. And another. More explosions than you could possibly count, and to be honest, they all fucking hurt like hell.
You spluttered weakly, sprawled out on your stomach to avoid being blown back towards the edge of the arena. You blinked away the sting in your eyes, the nasty burning sensation that had them swollen and puffy.
"Stop attacking," you managed weakly. "Give up," you ordered, just a bit louder. "Give up, and walk off the arena."
Another explosion didn't come, but you couldn't see what was happening with all the smoke in your way. You rose to your feet, squinting your eyes. The crowd was silent overhead. It was quiet enough for Katsuki to hear you, unless he'd plugged his ears again.
"Huh," you heard him say. "Seems like as long as I can't see you, that Quirk of yours won't have any effect."
Your eyes widened. Was that true? It was the first you'd ever heard of it. People had to be looking at you in order for your powers to work? Come to think of it, you couldn't exactly recall a time when the target of your Quirk wasn't looking at you while you used it on them, but it just seemed intuitive to approach them that way. Shit. But he must've heard your voice just now, and he definitely wasn't obeying your command...
"Then I guess this fight is over!"
His figure burst through the smoke before you'd even realized it. You choked out a strangled cry, but you were already being hit with another explosion. You were sure there was some sort of limit to how many he could fire off, just like he'd said earlier, but your body wasn't going to last that long.
"Stop it, Katsuki-kun!" You leaped off to the side, catching yourself in a safety roll. "Stop attacking and look at me!"
He had one hand covering his eyes, though he was peeking through the bottom of his fingers so that he could still see some of the terrain. You were kind of offended. You'd never had someone so determined to not look at you before.
You could see a smirk creeping onto his expression. "Come over here, if you're so desperate for attention."
That's it. I'm going to humiliate him in front of all these people, if it's the last thing I do.
With one hand covering his eyes and a shit-faced grin on his face, Katsuki kept his other palm outstretched, ready to release another explosion the second you got too close. If your voice really wasn't going to affect him so long as he wasn't looking at you, then you had no choice but to make contact. Your entire body was stinging from the explosions, but if he couldn't see you, then he was the one at a disadvantage!
