Months went by after Aha'ri returned to camp and life at the village was—almost—normal. Both she and Neteyam were just trying to stay low, being very careful to stay away from any recom movements or hotspots down in the forest.
Neteyam was preparing the warriors for the worst—war with the Sky People, although he was hopeful it wouldn't come to that. He still wanted to be prepared if the worst came to worst and his training with the warriors took up most of his time, leaving Aha'ri and Lurei to prepare for the worst in their own ways.
While he carried out his Olo'eyktan duties, Aha'ri spent more time with Mo'at, learning more about her so-called gift. She learned a lot, and so did Lurei who was always there with her. Mo'at taught them about different herbs and medicines that can easily be made, as well as wound care. While she learned about the physical studies of the Tsahik, Aha'ri also learned the spiritual side. She spent a lot of time trying to listen for Eywa's guidance, trying to hear anything from the Great Mother, but she hadn't had another vision since the night she returned.
When they weren't with Mo'at, the sisters were out, training in their own ways. Aha'ri kept her bow skills and hand-to-hand fighting as sharp as she could without Neteyam's help. Lurei worked with her to hone her fighting skills as well. She was the most fierce child in all of the village. Aha'ri could only hope her little sister didn't have to use her skills any time soon.
Although Neteyam and Aha'ri did their own things, they still worked together to orchestrate raids to replenish their supplies and keep the recoms on their toes.
Their spying had proved to be of little use over the months. Neteyam and Aha'ri would go out every afternoon and use their radio scanner to see if they could pick up on Quaritch's movements or transmissions. Neteyam was optimistic and Aha'ri indulged him, if only to get an hour or so alone with him just to fly over the forest and get to talk to him about his day.
However, one day, they had flown farther than they normally had, all the way over to the waterfalls cliffs to the far east of camp.
"So, yeah. Let's just say training the warriors is going to be a little more intensive than I originally thought," Neteyam finished explaining, talking about his struggles of keeping his training with the warriors productive while staying away from the recoms.
Aha'ri listened intently, enjoying the little moments she had with him, even if he only ranted about his grievances. "I told you. You can only do so much up in the mountains. You were going to have to go down to the forest at some point to get better dr-"
"Shh, wait I hear something over the radio scanner," Neteyam interrupted Aha'ri.
There had only been static during their whole flight but she adjusted her earpiece and heard a voice.
"-patrol picked up a radar hit. A rogue gunship."
Aha'ri started to frantically look around to see if she could see the recoms anywhere. They had to be close.
"Where?"
She looked over to the waterfalls to their left. A pod of ikrans flew below them a few clicks ahead. Aha'ri banked into Neteyam to get his attention and frantically pointed over the the ikrans ahead of them.
"Eastern Sea. Four hundred clicks north."
"Uh-huh"
Then, the pod of recoms below them, banked left, Neteyam and Aha'ri quickly flew in the opposite direction so they wouldn't be seen. It wasn't until they found a riverbank closer to camp to speak again. They dismounted from their ikrans and thought to themselves in silence.
