One fateful day...

"Hey, pig-barf!" A squeaky voice shouts, startling the purple haired girl to her right.

"AH! D-do you mean, m-me?" Mikan timidly asks as she points to herself and plays with her hair.

Hiyoko rolled her eyes and slammed her hands down onto the table, once again scaring poor Mikan. "Of course I mean you, dumb bitch! Now go get me a snack from the cafe, I'm hungry and cranky!"

Mikan recoiled at the orders being barked at her face but stood up immediately, bowing deeply. "Of c-course, I'm sorry! Please don't hate me!"

Mikan turned to leave, but was stopped by a sharp screech and a crash from behind her. When she looked again, Hiyoko was pale as snow and standing above her fallen chair. Hiyoko looked around the room with wide eyes.

"Alright, who pulled my hair!? That wasn't nice you big meanies!!" She shouted, accusing everyone around her, only to be frozen again when she realized that no one was behind her.

"W-what??? But I totally felt someone tug my hair!" The girl looked as if she was about to cry, bunching up her fists and pursing her lips. "WAAAAHHHH HELP ME BIG SIS MAHIRUUUU."

She ran to Mahiru- who was just as confused as everyone else, but hugged and comforted the short girl all the same.

"..." Mikan stood, fidgeting with her fingers, unsure what to do. "S-so... do you still want that snack?"

Hiyoko gave her a death glare. "Stop acting so desperate donkey-lips."

As Mikan began profusely apologizing and Mahiru scolded Hiyoko, Nagito sat still in the middle of the chaotic room. His face was slightly scrunched, an unpleasant air around him. He felt like something was off... like someone was standing behind him.

"W-w-wait... w-who's that behind Nagito???" Mikan slowly squeaked out with a shaky finger pointed at the sickly boy.

Everyone turned to stare at him, but he just had a dumb empty smile on his face at the coincidence, pointing to himself in question.

"Me?"

He looked around, but saw no one.

Mikan stared for a few more seconds, then burst into tears and ran out of the classroom.

"Ah, w-wait! Ms. Tsumiki!!" Chisa called out, reaching for the crying girl. She turned to the class with a stern look. "Stay here, stay calm, and try not to cause any more trouble!"

With that, she sprinted out of the classroom at an inhumanly fast speed. The students could hear her voice distantly calling out for Mikan to stop and talk it out.

The atmosphere in the classroom was quiet and eerie, until Hiyoko spoke up with an uncharacteristically somber yet still rude tone.

"Y-you know, pig-barf might actually be right for once... I may or may not have... seen something behind that creep."

No one wanted to speak...

"Hmph," Gundham huffed. "I do not sense any divine beast or presence from the other world near our classmate, so there is no reason to panic."

The statement didn't really help anyone's nerves, but everyone appreciated Gundham's attempt at reassurance anyway.

The day went on as usual... until Nagito got back to his dorm and sat down to do homework.

He had his notebook and textbook laid out on the desk, his pencil cup in reach and a pen on the desk beside his books.

Nagito spun in his chair to prep himself for studying, but when he was done spinning he realized that something was off again.

The pen on his desk started to move. It was just rolling near the edge of the desk, so he put his hand over it to make it stop. That seemed to work, so he flipped open his textbook, finding the right page.

His search was interrupted, however, by the pen rolling off the desk and falling to the floor.

Nagito didn't think much of it, leaning down to pick it up and put it back on the desk. He went back to his flipping, only to be immediately halted by the pen beginning to roll again. He caught it early this time, and simply put it back into his pencil cup so he could flip in peace.

Nagito eventually found the right page and absentmindedly reached for a pen or pencil. Just then, the cup suddenly tipped over, spilling a rainbow of writing utensils everywhere.

Nagito shot up out of shock from his seat, watching the pencils and pens roll and fall unceremoniously to the ground.

He was undeniably freaked out, so he decided to put on his coat and take a walk around the school.

It was a misty afternoon, and Nagito couldn't make out his surroundings very well. He trusted his luck to help him navigate and not bump into a pole and die.

The atmosphere was serene, and Nagito forgot all about his abnormal experiences in the cool fog.

It was about ten minutes into his walk when he felt it; a sudden breeze flying by the side of his neck.

Nagito stopped short and brought his hand to his neck, feeling the goosebumps on his pale skin.

After a few seconds of shock, he looked around him only to find nothing out of the ordinary. Figuring it was something natural and simply spontaneous, he kept walking.

As soon as he did, though, a figure appeared in the blurry distance.

Her eyes were obscured by the fog, but her smile was clear and innocently wide.

Nagito stared at the girl with unblinking eyes, afraid the apparition would disappear again.

"Are... are you following me?" He asked the figure timidly.

Much to his chagrin, the girl only tilted her head like a curious puppy.

The first time he blinked in that whole interaction, the girl vanished from sight once again.

He sighed and rubbed his face with his hand, trying to snap out of his confused daze.

Deciding he had enough excitement for one day, he turned around and went back to his dorm. He took a cold shower and then went straight to bed.

... without doing his homework.

... and at 5:30...

Well Nagito was tired enough that as soon as his body hit the covers, he went to bed.

....

It was around 5:00 am when Nagito got a sudden chill that startled him awake.

He opened his eyes, and as they adjusted, he was met with the young girl staring at him from his desk chair.

Nagito had enough, so he simply brought the covers over his face and turned the other way, going back to his dreamless sleep.

Dreading another day...
