Another fateful day

Start from the beginning

"There! I see them!" Chisa shouted as she waved to the pair of athletes, sprinting ahead.

Nekomaru was laughing, and Akane was grinning ear to ear.

"See?" Akane spoke. "Told ya I'd beat you even with this box of junk weighing me down! And I didn't break a sweat!"

Nekomaru just smiled at her as she bragged, happy she got a confidence boost.

"Wow, that sure is surprising!" He laughed. "I'll be sure to train more so I can start beating you again!"

"Alright, Akane! Would you please pass me the box?" Chisa asked politely as she reached them.

"Yeah, sure," Akane pointed to the box that was sitting behind her.

Chisa smiled and hummed a song as she got everything ready, picking up a giant picnic blanket for everyone to sit on.

"Everyone, please sit down while I set the scene!"

Everyone obliged, knowing they would just get dragged back if they tried to run away.

The blanket was surprisingly nice, and gave everyone plenty of room.

"Well, I have an EMF detector, or an 'Electro-Magnetic Field' detector! Who wants that?" Chisa asked with a wide smile.

No one made any moves, and just as Chisa's face started to darken, Chiaki timidly raised her hand.

"I can do it... I just have to wait for it to beep, right? So I can keep playing my game?"

Chisa noticed that Chiaki had been staring at her GameGirl the whole time, and she decided Chiaki had had enough screen time. She held out her hand infront of the girl, making her look up slightly.

"I'm sorry Miss Nanami, but this is a class activity! Everyone must be 100% present!"

Chiaki looked at the ground shyly and puffed her cheek slightly. She handed over her device, bringing her knees to her chest and rocking herself slightly.

"All right! Here is your new gadget!" Chisa handed Chiaki the EMF, who began to study it.

Chiaki found the on button, and clicked it, seeing a little green light start to shine. It said the level was '1', so Chiaki looked at the group expectantly.

"Hmmm... We'll wait to see if it gets any higher. Now, here, I have a thermal camera!" Chisa grabbed a small camera from the bin, bringing it to her face and panning around the circle of nervous students. "How abooouuuut... Kazuichi!"

Kazuichi jumped at his name. "M-me?" He gulped.

Chisa only smiled and nodded. "Uh-huh!"

Chisa shoved the device into Kazuichi's hands. Kazuichi proceeded to slowly turn it on and look around for himself. He didn't see anything unusual, so he just lowered the camera and shrugged.

"Ah... so nothing..." Chisa had a disappointed look on her face, but she just smiled and continued to try more gadgets.

Everyone had tried a tool to no avail, until Chisa realized Nagito never got one.

"Oh, Nagito! You should have spoken up! It is your ghost after all!" Chisa grinned as she grabbed the last gizmo in her box of wonders. She brought out a strange square with a speaker and a power button.

Nagito eyed it questioningly as it was placed gingerly into his hands.

"Saved the best for last!" Chisa exclaimed.

"Ah, pardon me, but what exactly does it do?" Nagito asked, completely unaware of the wide world of ghost hunting.

"Glad you asked!" Chisa clasped her hands together. "So if you turn that spirit box on, you'll hear a jumble of static and radio noise!"
