A young child, 10 at most, rushes down a dark street. A distant window of a rundown house let in the cold as tied sheets hung from the window sill. Their rags hardly kept in any heat as each bleeding foot hit the pavement in a rhythmic thump, thump, thump as their tiny hands clutched at a small bag resembling a backpack. The small human, beaten black and blue, stained with tears and blood, ignored the cold of the wind. Each breeze seemed to push them along, Mother Nature hearing the child's pleas for freedom.

Behind them were the angry screams of corrupted souls, hideously distorted figures of the ones they once knew as their parents. Bottle in hand, the feminine one chases after the beaten and bruised child, though she seemed too tipsy to really care about them. She seemed more concerned with keeping up with her husband, fistfuls of blood and torn cloth.

Fear rushes through the young one's veins as behind them was the thump thump thumping of their abusers' footsteps, getting ever closer to their own. They fought the urge to turn their head, to look into the eyes of evil. They almost lost that battle when as they their head halfway to them and SLAM! A wall... or was it? It was too soft, like clothing over Jell-O. They refocus ahead of them to be greeted by a skeleton couple, one in pale yellow resembling a starry dream and the other with a cross over their chest.

Before a word could be spoken, the couple quickly helps the bleeding child up, recognizing the severity of the situation. Had these been their angels? The dreamy skeleton make quick work of their wounds, tearing a bit of their clothing as makeshift bandages. That explained the jelly-like bounce, as their exposed belly revealed a light yellow semi-transparent ectoplasm that resembled a human stomach and exposed their spine. Meanwhile, the 'x'-clad skeleton was ready to protect his partner and this strange human child. As the humans approached, he armed himself with a bone bat, ready to defend. The yellow skeleton called the police while he tried to calm the frantic breathing of the kid. There was a brief struggle between the humans and the cross-chested skeleton before the child was able to witness him intercept their mother's bottle, which shattered upon impact with his bat.

Just when they thought this would be the end for them, the child heard sirens, their eyes blinded by flashing red-and-blue lights. Does this mean... freedom?!

5 police cars pull up, followed soon after by an ambulance. As they were carried by the shorter of the 2 skeletons, the yellow one, they watched as their parents were handcuffed and forced into the back of 2 separate cars. The cross skeleton, lightly peppered with cuts on his face from the shattered bottle, was allowed to be escorted by a policeman to follow the ambulance with his partner.

After an intense recovery, the child, introduced to the skeleton couple as Y/N was allowed to be adopted by the ones who saved them, Dream and Cross, a married couple. They were put under the sweet couple's care, who already had 3 children, a son Whipple and two daughters Lucid and Lux.

Now, at 13, Y/N is about to start at UnderHigh. Whipple (15) and Lucid (14) are happy to help them around school, as they are also students, and Cross and Dream will be keeping an eye on them as their teachers.

How will they handle the new environment? The first day jitters, the new people... or are they?
