A/n: This is the first ending, in which you choose none of the love interests! This is the angsty version, but I will also be making a fluff version.

I knew I wanted to do an angsty ending like this, but I also wanted to include another one because why should you have to suffer just because you didn't like any of the love interests? Instead you can suffer because you chose to read this version, so enjoy! <3

Nilou could feel her entire body shaking as she listened to Candace's words at the front of the group. Had she not been sitting in a chair, she knew her knees would have already given out under her. Hot tears ran down her face as she stifled her own sobs, not wanting to interrupt the speech being given by her friend.

She herself had elected not to speak today; it was too painful. She wasn't as strong as Candace, and she knew she would have broken down in front of everyone if she tried. Instead, she watched from her seat.

Today she was attending the final ceremony held for her best friend: you. It wasn't exactly a funeral; after all, they had nothing left of you to use for such rites.

When you'd collapsed in the desert after finally defeating Dottore, she'd felt her whole heart shatter into pieces. Your body went up in flams; even more so than it already had been. You burnt to ash in front of her very eyes, only for the embers to blow away in the wind as quickly as they'd appeared.

And that was the last she'd seen of you.

All she had left now was a single shard of glass she'd found in the sand after your vision was destroyed. It may not have been much, but she carried it with her everywhere as a reminder of all she'd lost that day.

Not having any other traces of you, like a body or some of the ash, made a funeral harder to go through with. But since everyone had agreed that you deserved some kind of final celebration, they were gathered here outside of Sumeru City anyway.

To be more specific, they were at your childhood home. Though your family hadn't lived there in many years and no one else had moved in when you left, it was still an area of importance to you. Nilou had been the one to suggest it originally, but now that she saw here facing it with her own eyes, she almost wished she hadn't. It brought back too many memories from when you were alive.

Next to her, she felt Dehya gently squeeze her shoulder as a way of showing that she was there. It didn't help much, but she could feel a little reassured as long as she had that support.

It would never compare to the love and support you'd always offered her, though.

"Today we celebrate the life of Y/n L/n." Candace spoke out to the crowd, her own eyes lowered in sadness as she did so. She'd volunteered to do this, knowing the others weren't feeling up for it. But that didn't make the speech any easier. "For some of us, Y/n came into our lives as quite a surprise." She continued tearfully, "But for others, they've been present for a long time; we just didn't realize it yet."

Nilou let another tear fall onto her lap as he hands gripped the edge of her skirt, wanting so badly to run away and not have to hear the rest of this. But out of both respect for you and a need for closure, she forced herself to stay where she was.

Next to her, even Dehya's usually stone-cold exterior was beginning to falter. Though she hadn't known you for long, you'd still come to mean a lot to her in that time.

Had she realized all of this would happen the day she saved you out in the desert, she wouldn't have changed a thing...Except protecting you better. She regretted nothing but the fact that she hadn't been there in your hour of need; instead watching as your other friends raced to the desert to save you.
