"Hello," you greeted. "How are you guys feeling today?"
"We're good," Izuku smiled.
"All good," Shouto affirmed.
Iida nodded too. "Yes, feeling much better now."
You wondered if it was insensitive to ask how his brother was doing. Sadly, it sounded like he'd never be able to work as a hero again, but you hoped he could still lead a normal, happy life.
"Oh, [Name]," Shouto said, his eyes lifting in realization. "I forgot to tell you, but I went to visit my mother a little while back. Just after the Sports Festival."
Izuku did a little jump. "Eh? Really?"
"That's so great," you beamed. "I'm happy for you."
"Mhm," he nodded with a small smile. "You and Midoriya helped motivate me to do it. If it wasn't for what you'd said back then, I probably would've never mustered up the courage."
At least there was some good news in all of this. Izuku was the one who'd fought him, but you were happy to know that your feelings had gotten across to him as well.
"By the way," Shouto went on, pulling his phone out of his pocket, "I was confused about something. This picture you sent in our group chat last night—what is it?"
You bit back a smile. "The meme?"
"What's a meme?"
"I've never heard that term either," Iida echoed. It was getting harder and harder not to laugh. You locked eyes with Izuku, who was holding back a giggle of his own, and you just about exploded at the same time.
"You guys are so funny," you laughed. "I'll send more and more of them in the group chat and you'll start to understand how they work. You seriously need to brush up on your internet culture."
"Because Iida's so strait-laced," Izuku chuckled, wiping away at his eyes. "But Todoroki can be surprisingly out of the loop, too."
Shouto's expression was slowly turning to horror. "Are memes important? Why am I only just now hearing about this?"
"Pfft—!"
Luckily, All Might came in to start your hero studies up, otherwise you were sure you would've started dying of laughter. He took the class out to Playground Gamma, a messy terrain of all sorts of misshapen buildings, pipes, and construction equipment. The starting group was about to undergo a training race, to see who could navigate through the surroundings the fastest—it consisted of Izuku, Iida, Sero, Mina, and Ojiro. All in all, a very mobile group. With the exception of your curly-haired friend.
"Deku's gonna be dead last," Katsuki gritted out, crouching down beside you. "Just you watch."
"It's true that he's at a disadvantage against the current lineup..."
That's what you'd thought, at least. It turns out that couldn't have been further from the truth. You watched with wide eyes as he hopped every which way at a blistering pace. The last time you'd seen him use his powers, his bones had been shattered. In only a short while, it looked like he'd managed to fine-tune the output of his power so that it didn't destroy his body.
"Amazing!" you cheered. "Go for it, Izuku-kun!"
Katsuki shot a hasty glare in your direction, but he looked disturbed for a different reason entirely. "That shithead... those are my moves. He's using my damn moves!"
"Oh? Come to think of it, you're right."
Not that it really mattered. Izuku lost his footing during the race at some point and ended up falling all the way down. It was unfortunate, but it had been a good effort. Katsuki was still seething beside you. You were sure his ego had taken a big hit this time around. Even if you wanted to console him, he'd probably just take it as an insult.
