"Where am I..?"
The sounds of flames blazing all around the yellow and black hedgehog lying in what's left of his home Green Hills. His quills are stained with blood from his own. The hedgehog weakly stood up, his wounds slowly healing with cold mist emitting from the exposed wounds closing. He glanced to his left, there lay his modified wisp weapon, Disaster, destroyed. The blade alone was broken in half.
"How long have I been out for...?" That question alone ran through his head. The home he knew was destroyed by someone more powerful than he ever imagined.
"I have to meet up with the professor ASAP!"
The hedgehog pulled himself together and skated off to the building that stood tall thanks to an energy barrier. Zooming through the rubble and falling debris, the hedgehog quickly made haste passing through dead bodies to the barrier covered building.
"Damn you..." He muttered in sorrow for the bodies.
"Doctor Anchor, I'm here." There was no answer. "It's me, Elderich." The Hedgehog known as Elderich announced. At last appeared a holographic figure, a wolf morbian named Anchor hiding behind a laser canon.
Dr. Anchor: "Elderich? Elderich! I thought you were dead!"
Elderich: "Wish that was true. Have the portal ready."
Dr. Anchor: "Where are you going?!"
Elderich: "To find the Chaos emeralds. We can't leave them behind for the enemy."
Elderich's skates scraped against the cracked pavement as he moved through the ruins of Green Hills, the once-vibrant town now reduced to cinders and silence. The air was thick with smoke, the scent of burning metal and scorched earth clinging to his fur. His mind struggled to grasp the full weight of what had happened.
He had failed them.
A cold wind howled through the ruins, carrying with it ash and embers. Elderich stopped in his tracks, his quills bristling. In the distance, at the center of what used to be Green Hills, lay something that shouldn't be there-a jagged, pulsing tear in reality itself.
His breath hitched.
Elderich: 'What the hell...?'
The rift was unnatural, swirling with chaotic energy, tendrils of violet and black surging outward like living shadows. It pulsed, warping the air around it. And beneath it...
The Chaos Emeralds.
Elderich's eyes widened as he skated forward, stumbling as exhaustion weighed him down. The seven emeralds lay scattered in a broken circle, their once-brilliant glow now reduced to lifeless gray stones. He knelt, reaching out to touch one.
Nothing. No spark. No energy. Just an empty, useless husk.
The Chaos Emeralds-once the most powerful relics in existence-were dead.
His hand clenched into a fist.
Elderich: "No... no, no, no!" he growled, slamming his fist into the ground. The world was dying, unraveling before his eyes, and the only power capable of stopping it had been drained away.
A deep, echoing voice rumbled from the rift. A voice that did not belong to any living thing.
"This world has reached its end."
Elderich's ears flattened as the voice reverberated in his skull. He turned sharply, his body tensing as dark figures began to emerge from the rift. Shadows without form, shifting and writhing as they crept forward, dragging long, twisted limbs across the ground. Their movements were unnatural-wrong.
