Chapter Four
Tim looked around as he followed Callie into her apartment.
"Would you like a tour?" Callie asked as she moved to place her keys on a side table that had a little bowl for her keys.
"Sure, if you don't mind." Callie smiled at him over her shoulder.
"Like I've said before, I don't ever mention or ask something if I wouldn't mind answering the same thing."
"That's a good trait to have... this is a nice place you have though." Tim said as they went room to room. Tim had grown up in the Drake and Wayne mansions and so was used to luxury. Although Callie didn't have as large of a home as what he was used to, he got more of a homey feeling.
Callie smiled softly at him as they came back into the living room and sat down on the couch.
"Thanks, Tim. So do you have any questions for me?"
"Why Gotham? How are you paying for this place if you have a GED?"
"Well, I needed to get out of New York as it has too many bad memories for me. My mom and stepdad passed not that long ago so when I decided to move, my dad recommended Gotham. He actually found this place for me and paid for everything as well as a sizable allowance. He calls it overdue child support."
"I have a feeling that you don't have a good relationship with your dad."
"It comes and goes. He wasn't around when I growing up and the number of times I have met him, can be counted on two hands. My two half brothers live with him and my stepmom."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear all of that... for what its worth, he is losing out on not getting to know you and not having you in his life." Tim said softly. Callie ducked her head with a soft smile. No one had ever really said that about her and to hear this young man say it to her after only knowing her for less than a day, made her feel special for the first time in a long time.
"Thanks, Tim. I really appreciate you saying that." Callie began to speak again when her phone beeped. She pulled it out of her pocket to see that her groceries were being dropped off. "I'm gonna run down and start to bring the groceries up."
Tim stood up and began to follow her. "I'll help."
"Oh, you don't have to help Tim."
"Too bad, I'm going with."
"No, stay here."
Tim laughed softly. "You're being followed."
Callie couldn't help but return it. He was such a dorky sweetheart. She grabbed her keys as they left, unaware of the cracked door across as her neighbor opened at the sound of the activity.
They got down to the lobby and surprisingly all of the bags were put on a cart for easy transportation by the person that was there earlier.
"Oh, you got down here fast! Your items have been placed in the cart, once you are done with it bring it back down please. Thank you!" Callie smiled at them as Tim grabbed the cart and wheeled it onto the elevator. Callie shot him a look she wasn't used to such gentleman manners.
Tim simply smirked at her look as he waited for her to get back on and scan her fob. They arrived back on Callie's floor and to Callie's surprise her neighbor was outside of his door with his back to them as he seemed to be locking his door.
"Tim you are seriously spoiling me, my friend!" Callie teased as she ignored her neighbor so didn't see as her neighbor turned around and his piercing eyes met Tim's whom froze in his tracks.
"Jason?"
"Replacement." Callie looked between the two of them as tension began to build between the two, seemed as though Jason was silently threatening Tim. Which was a bad idea on this Jason's part. Callie had already claimed Tim as part of her family, and she always protected her family. Callie narrowed her eyes at the larger man and stepped in between the two with no fear within her. No mortal will ever place a lick of fear in her body after what she has faced.
"Tim, the door's unlocked so you can go on in." Callie said over her shoulder as Jason's eyes darted down to her and their eyes held. Callie felt Tim hesitate but ultimately wheeled the cart into her home. "As for you, I don't know nor care who you are nor do I want to know. But I will say that if you ever try to threaten Tim again within my presence, I will f*ck you up so bad that your ancestors will feel it. Do you understand?"
Jason's once almost glowing green eyes now turned back to blue - which weirded Callie out a bit - as looked at her in amusement. Which she kind of understood. Jason was a hugely muscled 6'5" guy and Callie was 5'8" with an athletic, swimmers build. It was probably hard for Jason to imagine Callie being any manner of a threat to him but Callie was used to taking down much stronger, ancient opponents.
"Yeah, sure whatever, little fighter," he said with a smirk. Callie narrowed her eyes. "Don't worry, I'm not gonna hurt Replacement."
"Callie, its fine. Remember how I mentioned one of my brothers is a grump? This is the grump I was referring to." Tim said, back in the doorway as he eyed the two of them. He, like his brother, could tell that Callie had no fear right now and that made them both curious, more curious, than ever about this new acquaintance of theirs.
"So its the regular sibling rivalry then?" Callie asked.
"Uh, a little bit more than a regular one but really its just a brother thing." Tim said. Callie was silent for a moment longer before smiling at Jason.
"Well, then, I'm sure your brother won't be opposed to joining us then?"
Jason turned his head to meet Tim's, both very uncomfortable at the thought of hanging around each other outside of their night activities and without having Dick around to act as a buffer.
"Uh..."
"Um..." both tried to protest but Callie was not having it.
"Nope, sorry! You're not getting out of this. Tim, get back in there we have food to put away. Jason, you're staying for dinner and movie night. Come on, let's go." Callie pushed Jason into her apartment with surprising strength. Neither of the young men could refuse as the strong willed woman bossed them into the kitchen.
As the two batbros allowed the young woman to boss them around, Jason couldn't help but feel a strange fluttering in his chest... and he couldn't help gravitating around her.
