The Space We Cannot Fill

"Welcome to Protocol VALORANT! Your new family, home and team." A old man with crow's feet welcomed her, gesturing to the high-tech building. Lights lit up as she stumbled through the hallway, confused. Adrenaline and confusion masked the dull feeling of her left arm. One moment she was exploring with a giant glowing bear (bad idea) then she was in a literal military? "My name is Brimstone. You were bought here because you possess one of the rarest talents in the universe, and somehow, we haven't detected that talent for the past 5 years you've controlled it. Now you're one in a few who can-"

She chuckled, teasing: "I am one of the few who can move an Oreo from my foot to my mouth." Deadlock swore she heard someone snicker,

"You're actually a Radiant, able to withstand extreme circumstances, control abilities and act as a killing machine." Deadlock's eyes rolled back and she fainted sideways. Guess that bleeding arm wasn't going to heal itself.

"Her blood vitals show steady, time to wake her up." Deadlock bolted upright. Where was she? Who was this woman? How did she get here? And what was that voice?

"Hello Agent 23 Deadlock. My name is Sage, the team's healer. You will be all right.", The woman spoke, resting a hand on her shoulder. "Your crew leader already consented to you joining VALORANT Protocol 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately, that was also the time that she fell to a spirt bear. Please ask me if you have any questions and welcome to the team." Deadlock shifted to ask Sage when a sharp prick was felt in her left arm. Her skin-and-bone hand was gone, replaced with a metal hand. The hand worked surprisingly well and was lighter than air. It fit her well, but she still had something nagging on her mind,

"Does that mean that I can't meet my family again?", Deadlock asked, imagining her brother dying without someone to comfort and fight for him.

Sage smiled, "My dear, when you join VALORANT, you fight for your family! Of course, you would be able to meet them."

"Then I will join. Thank you so much providing me with the opportunity, [long awkward pause because she forgot her name]" Deadlock replied, relived but a bit scared.

"Sage" Sage cut in, "Do you need help getting to your new room?"
