Chapter 4: Restlessness

Cale: Seems about right, I guess.

Vital: Cool, cool. Remember, self-care is the essence to a plentiful road. The good thing is that we're going to try and get you back into shape, alright man?

Cale: That sounds good.

Vital: Great, great. Straight ahead past the machine are a couple of circular pods. Surrounding them is a transparent enclosure. That's where part of the magic happens. The rest will come straight from you, believe it or not. This pod is designed for comfortability and sleek performance. The technology that rests in those pods has been worked on very intricately for the past 175 years to be refined as it is. But, there's more I must disclose under the laws and regulations of the Federation.

Cale: Seems legit to me.

Vital: Right, right. These pods do not ''intentionally'' alter reality in the physical plane, spiritual plane, nor any other planes of existence. Rather, they project imagery from the mind. Through a series of oscillating light patterns, eye tracking movement, brain wave detection, electromagnetic isolation and shielding, vibrational locality and induction, sensory stimulation with repeating patterns of deprivation.. and the list goes on, the pod will be able to map and project a surround view of your ''mind matter''. It will practically capture what your noggin would be doing during REM sleep without actually being asleep at all. I have no control over what happens in there except to dismiss the session. For research and safety purposes, I will have a view of what's going on in there.

Cale: That sounds like fun.

Vital: It puts you into a different perspective and no one's soul is the same. To say more, you have the right to confidentiality. The doors will remain locked and the window on the door will be covered. Aside from designated personnel of our glorious Federation, no one will have access to this session except you, the readers, and I.

Cale: Say what now?

Vital: Pay no mind to that. Before you enter, you will need to consume a liquid substance. It is safe to consume by all means. It will help to stabilize certain chemical endorphins in your body that may stimulate panic attacks and it will also reduce lethargy. It has been altered from its original formulation to suit your digestive layout. I must disclose what has been altered. It has been alkalized to a suitable pH level for your species being.. Not detected?

Cale: What do you mean?

Vital: I didn't catch this.. This is a very strange occurrence. Very rare to see actually.

Cale: What's that?

Vital: Your species is non-detectable, your DNA does not match any known to the databases of the Federation.

Cale: Is that.. a bad thing?

Vital: Let me put it this way. The Federation isn't grounded all across the infinite expanse of the cosmos. We're across the expanse of the cosmos, but there are things out there that even we don't know about. So, this is actually a lucky moment for both you and I potentially to be a part of. Not to compare you to that of a guinea pig, of course.

Cale: Well, let's test this out then, shall we?

Vital: Woah woah woah, easy there tiger. There remains more that I have to disclose, especially now that I have caught this phenomena.
