My Beach Boy

"Mazeeeeee" I hear my name being called from a distance. "Mazeee!" The voice shouts. Not just any voice. My brothers voice. Ethan has a way of making his voice scratchy and annoying. He gives my arm one last push. "Maze wake up!" He practically shouts in my ear. I groan and my eyes flutter open. I am in the same position I fell asleep in, which is surprising since I am usually an active sleeper. My head lays against the window, with my legs curled up beside me. My eyes focus on the view outside. "Finally you're awake." Ethan says. I pull out my AirPod and place it back into it's case.

"Why did you want me awake so bad?" I mumble, wiping my eyes. Opening them I see that we are entering the small town in North Carolina which my grandparents live in.

"We're almost there!" He says excitingly. I nod. If I would describe Ethan as anything it would the golden retriever type. His dirty blonde hair fly's freely around since he has his window open. Thank god he didn't take the top off, not that I hate it, it would just be hell for my hair. That's one of the reasons I love Ethan's Jeep. I love the free feeling it gives you.

"My god Ethan, will you calm down?" My oldest brother groans from the back, also just waking up. Ethan's excited grin only grows larger. Ethan is the more fun brother, so it took a lot to convince Alan to let him drive to North Carolina all the way from Indiana. Alan is the more serious brother. That is why I am a lot closer with Ethan, we are very alike so we always spent our time together growing up.

Ethan turns the music up, 'Cruel Summer' by Taylor Swift and starts singing along. Giggling, I turn my head and rest against the window again.

I have been staring out of the window I didn't even notice we turned onto my grandparents street. I love their house. it is a place for me to escape every summer.

I squeal when my grandparents house comes into view. Passing a few houses we reach the Lowry's summer house. Every summer the Lowrys show up a day before us. Their family consists of Lydia (their mom) Brian (Their dad) Kai (their son) and Lilian (their daughter). Kai has always been super close with my brother Ethan, and over the summers they created their own little friend group of kids who come every summer. Kai, Ethan, Liam, and Caeson.  Kai and Ethan were always the closest because they lived right next to eachother, although I can't seem why because Kai is so closed off. I don' know, maybe I don't know him well enough because he usually ignores me. I think it's safe to say though, that my brother, Landry, has the biggest crush on Lilian. They spend every second of this summer together.

We pull into my grandparents driveway right behind my dads car. Landry usually rides with my dad and mom, but we usually have more fun by ourselves with Ethan's car.

When the car pulls to a stop, I open the door and hop out of the car. I turn my head to see my grandparents already waiting for us outside the front door. I run around the jeep, up the driveway, up the steps and into my grandma's arms. My grandma is like my best friend. She sighs into the embrace then pulls away with her arms still on my shoulders.

"Let me look at you sweetie. Aw, your adorable honey." I smile. "And your outfit is so adorable."

I look down at my outfit. I don't think I did that bad. I smile bigger thinking about the fuss that Ethan made about how low the cut was.

"Thanks grams."

I give my grandpa a quick hug then run back down the steps to get my bag.

The car is parked sideways so the basketball hoop is behind me, then behind that is the Lowry's yard.

I'm grabbing my bag when I hear Ethan yell. "Yo! Kai!" I turn around and see Kai and Ethan doing the 'bro hug'. They talk for a second and I realize I am staring so I turn around to grab my other bag. When I turn around, Ethan is gone to put his bag inside and Kai is staring at me. His eyes rake from my face all the way down to my feet and back. What in the world is happening to my stomach?

He does the little head nod and says, "Hi Masie." With a slight smile on his face. I have never seen him smile before.

I give him a smile back and turn around to walk inside.

Quick POV - Kai

"Yo! Kai!" Ethan yells as I finish walking over to him. I might not show it but I am so excited to see him. It means my summer is officially starting. The time where I just get to escape.

When we finish hugging he asks me how I have been.

"I've been good bro. Just stressed out from school." I shrug. Changing the topic I go on, "This summer is about to fun though." I grin for a second. He nods.

"For sure." He pauses. "I'm going to run my bags inside real quick then we can go to the beach?" He asks. I nod my head.

He takes his bag and jogs inside. Following him with my eyes, they catch on something else.

Masie Brookes is standing grabbing her bag. Oh my god has her body changed. She is drop dead gorgeous. I guess looking back on it, I always knew she was stunning. That's why I had to stay away from her. She's Ethan's sister. That would wreck me and his relationship. I don't want to know what he would do, already knowing how he feels about a guy even just asking her out on a date. Her curves got sharper, her legs more slender. When she turns around my heart plumets to my stomach. She is drop. dead. gorgeous. She stops to look at me and my eyes can't help but rake her from top to bottom. I didn't know God made them this beautiful.

Play it cool Kai, play it cool. I can't help but grin. What? Am I genuinely smiling right now? That hasn't happened in years. "Hi Masie." I say. She smiles and walks away. Only smiles. I frown. My gaze follows her as she walks inside.
