After listening to a very long and very heavy lecture from Mama, I sat down at the polished oak table in the grand dining room just next to the kitchen where the smell of a roast chicken dinner wafted in and up my nose, causing me to drool slightly.
"Kara, go join your brother at the table, Dad and Diablo will be back any minute now."
On cue, Kara strolled in and took her place at the table opposite me before she began staring at me for a long moment. It was uncomfortable to say the least. Her young appearance contrasting with the maturity of a grown woman in her eyes that bore into my soul made for quite the trippy experience.
"Um... what do-"
"Shush." Kara said quickly, almost snapping as she put a finger to her lips.
A small portal appeared out of thin air which she stuck her hand inside and pulled out a small case that looked very similar to where one might keep their glasses. Only this case was much flatter and was slightly wider. She passed it to me with a warm smile on her face.
"Happy birthday lil bro." She chirped.
I took the case and opened it, causing my jaw to drop open.
Inside the case was a combat knife, a seven-inch-long blade attached to the hilt. It was beautiful but also looked ridiculously expensive.
"You'll never guess what it's made out of." Kara said with a smirk.
The hilt seemed to be made from a polished wood-like material, coloured in the combination of black and red swirls with the Cosmos family emblem (the Omega symbol) carved into the butt of the hilt. What was most valuable looking however was the blade itself. I could tell that the seven-inch-long blade was razor sharp, probably capable of cutting through a thick tree like it was butter, not only that but it looked like it was made from some kind of colourless crystal-like material. What was most astonishing however was that when I took hold of the knife the crystal blade slowly turned into a crimson colour almost as if the blade itself was filling up with water.
"No way." I said as I inspected my present in awe.
"I know right?" Kara said, a toothy grin spread wide across her face.
"Ethomite." I breathed.
Ethomite is the rarest and strongest material in all of existence and creation. It is a kind of crystallised mineral ore, a lot like diamond and other gemstones, however it possesses great strength and power. Across the endless expanse of infinite Relics and unending existence only just over a hundred tons of Ethomite had been discovered. The reasoning for the rarity of the material is that it's creation happens upon the death of a Sentient Ethos. Yes, Sentient Ethos. The beings that are the whole reason why us Ethorians have our power in the first place; our power only coming from the tiny fraction of the Sentient Ethos that is infused within us. No one really knows how much of a Sentient Ethos is infused within a Ethorian though it is theorised that its most likely only 1-2% of their power and being that is infused within us. That most likely the case for they seem to exist in a higher reality beyond Relics. It's the death of such beings, whose existence is unlike any other, that results in the creation of Ethomite. While deaths in their reality may not be rare it's the discovery of Ethomite itself that makes it so rare. For the only place these crystalline minerals can be found are in a few specific cave systems that are spread widely across all the countless Relics. Endless amounts of infinite ladders of realms and dimensions is a rather big place after all. Trying to find just one of these cave systems is like trying to find a needle in the biggest of all haystacks. Only two of these cave systems have been discovered currently although it is almost certain there are others out there.
