On the Upper East Side, new days don't always bring new beginnings, but they almost always bring new surprises.
✧
THREE DAYS IT had been since Victoria had gone home. Three days for the news to settle. Three days for the tension between herself and Nate faded for there to be a civil confusion. Three days to have her decide that she is prepared to explain her entire past to the boy she knew was the love of her life. It was also a day since she was last with Emery, the girl remaining in her father's company as they both felt in their midst of their argument that Emery shouldn't be suffered from jumping from comfort to comfort to make her uncomfortable. A day was too long. Victoria had woken, completely formed as a clean human being, as though she was ready to function. It had been a while since Rufus had seen his daughter put together, but three days wasn't too long, but it felt long considering he was watching the middle Humphrey suffered in the sheets of Eric van der Woodsen.
Rufus knew that there was tension between Victoria and Nate, and he did poke to find out what stemmed their argument this time round, he also didn't father the constant need for Victoria to run away when there was something wrong. As a father, it was known that they'd do everything possible to protect their little girl, and Victoria was one of his. Rufus never second guessed Victoria's relationship once he knew and had that gut feeling that Nate wasn't just a high school boyfriend that was to disappear when they graduated. Nate was someone Victoria's future was with. He wished that Victoria would stop running away just so she wasn't pushing Nate away at the same time.
When he saw her step out from the bedrooms, he was relieved. She was bathed, her combed and ready for the day ahead with an attire that didn't constant of leggings or sweats. Her sketchbook was tucked underneath her arm, it was Miles' suggestion to spend her time scribbling, maybe thinking of a next painting that could sell for as much as they had been. Over the three days he didn't leave her alone, he checked in on her, chatted to her, and tried to keep up to speed where her mind was wandering off to. He was not expecting her to want to make up with Nate so soon, especially with how tone deaf he came across about the traumatic event the Humphrey went through. Well, he should've known. It was always going to be Nate.
"Bags packed." Rufus begun to sing. "Hair brushed." He clapped his hands as he strode towards his daughter. "You finally ready to talk to Nate?"
Victoria nodded. "Yeah, Dad." She sighed. "I feel like the longer I leave it, the worse it's going to get." Oh, and she didn't want it to get worse, as much as Miles was suggesting to give Nate some more time, she knew that she couldn't leave it any longer.
