"Goddamnit stop already!", he growled out at her, taking long strides to catch up with her petite figure.
Her curly black hair whipped around as she turned to glare at him. "Why would you just give me that?!"
"What kind of a question is that? Because I love you and I want to spoil you", he shot back, staring at her stubborn glare as she pushed her hands into her hips. He couldn't help but rub his hand over his forehead in exhaustion. Why did it always have to be like that with her?
"Bullshit! You're expecting something of me aren't you? I'm not good enough for your world so you have to make me better right?!", she accused him, her insecurities obviously surging again.
"How many times do I have to tell you that that is not the case? I have the means to spoil my girlfriend so why the fuck shouldn't I?", he asked, trying to stay calm, to not get into another screaming match with her. They were both stubborn as hell which caused them to butt heads more often than other couples. He knew others would've walked away by now but he still loved her, still held onto her, despite her inherent mistrust of him.
"But what about the others, huh?!", she snarled at him, "They look at me as if I'm unworthy of you! Do you even know how many of those high class bitches ignore me to flirt with you thinking you'll just dump me at a moments notice if something richer comes along?!"
He stepped forward, gently holding her shoulders as he stared down at her. "Sweetheart-", he softly began.
She brushed his hands off. "I am not your sweetheart."
"Then what the fuck are you?", he began to be irritated with her again, "You're my girlfriend or did you break up with me in your head again?". It wouldn't have been the first time she ended their relationship and acted accordingly without telling him.
"I did not!", she finally said, "But I'm exhausted! I can't keep on fighting for you like that anymore", her glare turned into a frown, lowering her head at the last few words.
"Fighting for me? Don't you think I'm also fighting for you all the time? I keep defending you in front of the others. I don't care where you come from. All I care about is your future. OUR future", he firmly stated and tried again to pull her into a hug, this time she let him, her heated temper cooling down.
"This is your world, not mine. I keep thinking you will want something from me in return for even being with someone like me", she whispered into his chest.
He couldn't help but chuckle, gently stroking his hand up her back and resting it on her nape. "Kind of like an anti cliché huh? When I was younger I was always worried that my girlfriends only wanted my money. You reject this lifestyle so thoroughly that I never question your loyalty, despite what others try to tell me."
She leaned back a bit, looking up at him. "We can't keep fighting like that... I don't want you to distance yourself from your friends because of me."
"If I pulled away from society and became a quiet member on the fringes my real friends wouldn't mind", he assured her, "And those who do, don't need to be in our lives anyways."
If it would help her be less insecure about them he'd stop going to balls, parties and other events where she'd meet the hyenas of people who thought of her as lesser and ignored her for the sake of flirting only with him, well ... more likely flirting with his money. What they failed to see though was, that this was an integral test of character. He loved his girlfriend to bits, would donate all of his money to charity in a heartbeat if she asked him to. Wealth meant nothing if he couldn't share it with her.
