56 ? long overdue

Start from the beginning

You couldn't help the tears that started to form in your eyes. After all this time, you thought you'd grown more of a backbone, started to have faith in your relationships with others and the fact that they were truly genuine. Perhaps Katsuki was just trying to hurt you right now. Perhaps he didn't mean any of what he was saying. But still.

It felt like shit.

"Kacchan, there's no need to be so harsh!" Izuku protested. "[Name]-chan, it's not like that at all, it's just... ugh." He clenched his fists, then bowed his head. "I'm sorry. But please... don't tell the teachers about this, and don't try to stop us either. This is really important. We have something to discuss, and we need to deal with it now. I promise everything will be okay, so can you please go back inside and try to get some sleep?"

Even Izuku was determined to see this through, whatever it was. Now you felt guilty for stepping in, especially when it was clear that you weren't wanted. But was it so wrong to worry about your friends? You were just so happy here, at U.A, with everyone around you. If you felt like they were about to do something incredibly stupid, you just couldn't help yourself.

"We've wasted enough time. Let's go, Deku."

Katsuki let go of your shirt and turned away. He didn't say anything else, he didn't so much as glance back at you or even look somewhat apologetic for the hurtful things he'd uttered. You'd expected as much from him, though. And for all your talk, especially after being faced with Katsuki's words, you couldn't actually find it in you to use your powers on them. It was true that you controlled others. You'd never meant to have this kind of Quirk, but it was still the reality. And if you forced your powers on them right now, after they were clearly so against it, you doubted you'd ever be able to live it down.

"I'm sorry, [Name]-chan. Please don't follow us." Izuku smiled weakly, then hurried behind Katsuki. Of course, you had every intention of following them. Even if it was wrong to butt in, you needed to see for yourself what in the hell was going on.

For a while, you just stood there in silence, waiting to see where they went. Then, when they were far enough, you followed in their tracks. You walked for a while, doing your best to be as quiet as possible so they didn't know you were still behind them, and eventually, you reached what appeared to have been their destination.

Ground Beta.

Izuku and Katsuki were both there, unaware that you were hiding behind one of the buildings and listening in. It was your first time ever being here, actually, but you knew from what others had told you that this place was where the class had their first ever trial of battle, way back before you even started your classes at U.A.

"This is where I fought you for the first time in combat training," Katsuki said, looking up at the building with a wistful expression. "And... lost."

Izuku didn't say anything back, but you could see how serious he looked. And not just that. There was another underlying emotion in his expression.

Fear.

He wasn't afraid of Katsuki, though. That much you could tell. You knew that Izuku had been bullied by him in the past, but since starting at U.A and building up his strength, he'd gradually become more confident. No, he wasn't afraid of Katsuki-he seemed afraid of what Katsuki was going to say.

Katsuki let out a dry chuckle. "All this time, just thinking about it made me sick to my damn stomach. For as long as I knew you, you were a Quirkless, piece of shit weakling, but by some miracle, you got accepted to U.A, and by an even bigger miracle, your Quirk just manifested out of thin air, ain't that right?"
