A girl runs through the woods in the middle of the night, her steps splashing puddles from the heavy rain. Covering her mouth with her hands to stop herself from breathing too hard. She jumps over the tree trunks, rocks, anything that could trip her over. The world around her goes pitch black and she feels a tight grip on her arm. With a spine chilling scream, she's pulled into the darkness, a pair of hands holding her wrists while another strangles her.
"ARGHHHHHH" Ava, a short woman with pale skin, wakes up in the back of a car letting out a loud scream, alerting the person in the driver seat to hit the brakes almost immediately. Luckily the roads were empty, so they didn't hit anything. Sweat dripped down her face as she tried to calm down, looking around to confirm it was all a dream. Her friend looks back at her, a little irritated that she almost got them in an accident
"I told you not to fall asleep" he quips, starting to drive again now that Ava wasn't screaming.
"Nghhh... I'm sorry ok, I don't want to have these nightmares." She groans, stretching her body as she does her hair up into two buns.
The friend smirks, looking over the horizon to see a sparkling lake "Well let's hope you don't doze off and scare all those camp kids eh?" The car stops in front of a summer camp and both adults step out, Ava grabbing her bag out of the back seat as she takes a deep breath. "Hm, they've cleaned up nicely. I remember seeing pictures of this place and it was a total dump".
"New owners, they're trying to rebrand this place after all the murders a couple years back..." Ava says, pulling some bushes out of the way showing a broken old sign reading Camp Crystal Lake.
She goes to walk into the campgrounds when the friend grabs her shoulder.
"What do you mean murders? You never told me this was that camp, this job can't possibly be worth the risk!'
Ava sighs and pulls away, scratching the back of her neck "what else can I do man? It's a paid job that includes housing, that's the best a drop out could ask for..." she mutters, hoisting her bag over her shoulder and walking into the camp "I'm never going back to my so-called family, whatever it takes"
Walking through the trail to the cabins, Ava feels the winds blowing her hair, a soft smile as the sun hits her face. The warm feeling gives her a sense of peace. But once she opens the cabin doors that peace quickly disappears. Ava freezes up as she ends up watching a fight between counsellors while a boy in swim trunks sits in the corner. "THAT WILL POISON THEM YOU IDIOT"
"YOU DON'T KNOW UNTIL YOU TRY GODDAMNIT"
"YOU ARE DELUSIONAL"
"AND YOU'RE A DI-" One of the counsellors turned to Ava. A blonde woman with a sour look on her face "what are you looking at?"
The other counsellor, a thin looking man with dark skin pushed her out of the way "oi can you tell Jessica that chicken aren't like steak? The bimbo doesn't believe that raw chicken is bad"
Ava watches in shock, not knowing what to say as all the yelling hits her at once. "U-uh... I'm Ava the new counsellor, and no you definitely can't eat raw chicken..."
Jessica crosses her arms "that's bullshit Leo, cooking chicken is unnatural! There's nothing natural that can be bad for you".
Leo and Ava shoot each other glances before taking turns going on a list.
"Cancer"
"Malaria"
"Tornados"
"Lightning"
"Floods"
"Meteors"
"Cyanide"
"Volcanos""Ok ok I GET IT" she cuts them off. Glaring at Ava "make yourself useful and get the kid out of my way so we can prepare for the summer activities, parents dropped him off a day too early"
"So it's just the three of us?" Ava asks, tilting her head.
"We got Harley upstairs, but I wouldn't really put your faith in him... he's, ya know" Leo makes a motion like he's smoking a blunt. "He's harmless though, a bit of an airhead is all" he chuckles, Jessica dragging him off to get stuff ready "good to have ya here Ava!"
Ava looks down at the boy. Smiling softly as she reaches out her hand "you wanna go to the lake, don't you?" She asks, seeing that he's wearing swimwear. The boy looks up and nods his head "well I'll take you for a little dip." The boy smiles back and takes her hand "so what's your name kiddo?"
"Quinn" he says quietly, walking out on the dock and sitting at the edge getting his feet wet. Ava takes a seat next to him dropping her duffel bag by her side, watching the sun's reflection in the water. They sit there just watching the scenery as the other counsellors argue in the background.
Ava rolls her eyes hearing the arguments, realising that these fights would be a reoccurring event. "Way better over here eh? Nice weather, beautiful view, I'd be totally fine living here all year round" Ava says, Quinn nodding along to show his agreement. A quiet happiness washing over her as she watches the sunset against the water. Her peaceful view is once again interrupted as she hears someone drop a ton of metal pots. Looking over her shoulder to see another man, Harley maybe?
"Hey I'm gonna step away for a second, don't go into the water while I'm gone ok?" She ruffles Quinn's hair before jogging over to the counsellor she hadn't met. A muscular man with sleeve tattoos and curly black hair. "Hey there, I'm Ava, your new co-worker. Need some help bud?" She asks, picking up some of the pots. The man eyes her up a bit before accepting her help "damn... a girl as hot as you must be real stupid to take up a job here" he comments as his eyes focus on her butt, watching her tight shorts cling to her skin.
"Uh... if you say so...?" She hesitantly says, not sure how to react, she brushes off his comment and continues helping him. Walking faster to get it over with.
"Aw don't be mad, I was trying to compliment you! It's not every day a dumb job like this gets a real babe" he laughs as he catches up "let's start over Kay? I'm Harley" He leans against the cabin, his body towering over the woman "I'm not gonna be a douche and tell you the same lines you've heard all your life. It's gonna be a long summer so maybe we could spend some time getting to know each other~ I've already found tons of hidden places"
His fingers trail up Ava's arms, unbeknownst to the counsellors, 2 men were watching from the trees. A man in a hockey mask and the other in a William Shatner mask.
Shatner grips the cleaver in his hand tightly, about to attack when a loud yell alerts Ava and she pushes him away. Spotting Quinn drowning in the lake, she runs into the water, saving the boy before it's too late. Hockey mask stops Shatner from attacking, watching as Ava grabs a towel from her bag, wrapping it around his body to dry him.
"Why were you in the water?! That was so dangerous!" She says, checking all over his body to make sure there were no marks.
Quinn looks at the ground whimpering softly "I'm sorry, I slipped and fell in"
Ava sighs and leaves a soft pat on his head "well, head back to your cabin, take a warm shower and a new change of clothes" she watches as Quinn walks off the dock back to camp. Ava lay down on the dock groaning softly "anything to get away from my family anything to get away from my family anything to get away from my family" she repeats over and over, slowly drifting off as she focuses on the sound of water ripples.
The men walk out from the trees, standing over the sleeping woman's body. They look back at each other for a second before walking to the campgrounds.
Dead silence
A loud scream...
Another...
And another...
