~Eva's POV ~

Almost two weeks have passed since my last encounter with Tom Riddle. His absence has been palpable, a shadow lurking at the edges of my thoughts. Despite Dumbledore's cryptic request, I've been left with no clear path to follow. How am I supposed to "watch" him when he's never to be seen outside of his classroom hours? He's like a ghost, vanishing into thin air the moment his responsibilities are fulfilled. It's maddening.

I'm sitting on my couch, lost in thought, wrestling with the impossibility of my task. How do I approach someone like Tom Riddle without raising suspicion? We barely know each other, despite attending school around the same time—strangely enough, I don't even recall him. My head throbs with frustration, the weight of Dumbledore's expectations pressing down on me.

Suddenly, a sharp rap against my window snaps me out of my daze. A letter flutters inside, opening mid-air. Theodore's voice, stern and commanding, echoes through the room.

"Eva, come see me. I am waiting in the boathouse."

I roll my eyes. What could he possibly want now? Yet, despite my reluctance, I find myself rising, pulling on my cloak. I know it's probably a terrible idea, but I need closure. Tonight, I will tell him it's over. I will finally be free from the suffocating grip of this marriage, a union that has long since turned toxic.

The cold night air hits me as I make my way to the boathouse, the chill biting at my skin. The moon casts eerie reflections on the water's surface, adding to the growing sense of unease building within me. I find him standing near the boats, his figure silhouetted against the darkness.

"You really came," he says, his voice laced with surprise.

"I'm here," I reply curtly, crossing my arms. "You seem surprised."

Theo steps closer, his face illuminated by the faint glow of moonlight. He looks tired, regretful even, but I'm not here to be swayed by his remorse. I've made my decision.

"I want to apologize," he says, his voice softening as he reaches for my hand, his thumb brushing against my skin. "I went too far, Eva. I should've valued you more. I should've never hurt you."

The words sting, but they are hollow. They can't undo the damage that's been done, the bruises—both visible and invisible—that have marked our relationship. I nod, feeling the weight of what I'm about to say.

"Theo, I... I accept your apology," I begin, seeing a flicker of hope in his eyes. But it's short-lived. "But it's not enough. I can't continue this. We've been fooling ourselves for years, and you know it. This marriage has been over for a long time, and I think we both need to move on."

His face darkens as my words sink in, and I feel his grip on my hand tighten, the tenderness vanishing in an instant. His expression hardens into something cruel and familiar.

"You whore," he spits, his voice dripping with venom. "You've been with him, haven't you? With Riddle?"

Before I can react, his hand crushes mine in a vice-like grip. Pain shoots through my fingers, and I gasp, struggling to free myself.

"Theo—ahh!" I cry, but he pulls me closer, his eyes wild with anger. "NO, YOU BE QUIET!" he roars, his voice echoing off the walls of the boathouse. "I did everything for you, and this is how you repay me? By running off with another man?"

His words are a barrage of accusations, none of which hold any truth, but I can't get a word in edgewise. He's spiraling, and I can't stop him.

"I'm going to ruin you, Eva," he hisses, his face inches from mine. "You'll lose everything—your reputation, your family's wealth, everything. You'll have nothing."
