"Ah, shut the fuck up!" he snapped, blushing right away. "You clearly understood what I was getting at. What I meant is that you're less annoying when you're not worrying about shit. There? Is that better?"
"Yeah, a lot better," you nodded. "Now that I know how much you like me."
Katsuki shook his head and started aggressively scrubbing the plate in his hands. "I should have known better than to even try."
"Haha. I'm just teasing. I appreciate it, actually." You pursed your lips, then leaned in a bit closer, to make sure that no one else nearby might hear. "To be honest... my first day on the job didn't exactly go as planned. I can't really go into the details, since it's related to the office I'm working under, but I was reminded once more of the fact that I'm actually pretty weak. I tried to do something, but couldn't quite pull it off, and it's pretty frustrating. I don't know. I was just really hoping for a better turn-out."
"Did you get in trouble with that Sir Nighteye guy or something?" Katsuki asked.
"Like I said, I can't really explain it, but... technically, yes. He's not super thrilled about something I tried to do, especially since it didn't work."
Katsuki turned off the faucet, lightly shook off the plate before placing it on the drying rack, then turned towards you. "It's fine," he shrugged. "So, you made a mistake. It's not the end of the world. Now that you know what you've done wrong, it won't happen again, right?"
"I'm not so sure." You couldn't help but scratch your head, feeling a bit awkward. "I keep trying to tell myself that it'll work out better in the future, but I'm worried that the same thing will happen again. I'm afraid I'll just keep on failing, and I'd be pretty damn useless if that was the case."
"Worrying about something before it's even happened is the worst thing you can do," he said curtly. "You're just getting in your own head. When it comes down to it, whatever needs to be done, you will get it done. Try thinking of it that way."
Well, he's not wrong.
As upsetting as the thought of your Quirk not working on Chisaki was, just because you'd messed up once didn't mean that it would always be that way. Besides, you'd only used your voice on him and tried issuing a command from afar. Your Quirk always tended to work better on people whenever you were in direct contact with them. He was likely no exception.
You clenched your hand into a fist, skin pulling taut across your knuckles. Katsuki was definitely better at handling pressure than the average person, and while you weren't necessarily as headstrong as he was, you could certainly use him as an example of what to do.
He was strong. Him and Izuku both, and countless more of your classmates, for that matter. If they were in your position, you doubted they would be giving up so easily.
You drew in a breath, allowing it to fill your chest until it was actually a bit painful. Then, you exhaled, letting it all pass through you.
The goal was to save Eri and get to the bottom of what the Shie Hassaikai was up to. When faced with the severity of the situation, your frustrations and insecurities were a much more trivial matter. It didn't matter if you were scared or uneasy. You were a hero, and going up against this kind of stuff was part of the job.
"Thanks, Katsuki-kun. I'm going to do my best." You didn't waste a second before wrapping your arms around him, and although he tried to protest at first, he eventually let out a sigh and gently patted your back.
"Yeah, yeah," he muttered, looking away so that you likely couldn't see how red his face was, even though his flushed ears were a dead giveaway. "You're always so damn touchy. I wonder if you'll ever grow out of those pervy tendencies of yours."
