Eight Decades Later...

My eyes followed the children playing in the open grass field in front of the pack house, hearing their laughter fill the air from afar. I remained hidden behind the tree, using its branches and full leaves to shield me from the suns excruciating rays against my skin.

A small smile found my face as I watched them tackle each other, kicking up chunks of grass from playing rowdy. Wolf puppies ran past and my gaze moved to them, listening to their tiny paws patter against the earth and their squeaky barks of joy.

I like coming out to see the beautiful atmosphere and happiness whenever Alpha Aston doesn't need me. Ever since I quit trying to escape, I've been permitted to roam freely.

All hope I ever had of escaping has been lost for years.

Alpha Zeek's son, James, was almost as twisted as him. He was the one I tried my first escape attempt on. I only reached the border when he caught me and broke my legs, letting them heal simply to do it again.

"Scarlett, Alpha Aston requests you in his office immediately."

I turned to find one of his warriors, nodding with a forced smile. "Yes, sir," I answered, utterly deflated. That seemed to be the only emotion left in me anymore.

Using my vampire speed to keep him from waiting, I ran from outside to the door of his office within seconds. He must've sensed my presence outside because he called me in. I did as told, knowing things go better if I comply without verbal response. I understand it's better to just do it than to fight it and be forced to do it anyway. It's always worse the longer I make them wait.

"Come, sit, there's something we need to discuss." He signaled to the chair across from his desk and I closed the door, already preparing myself for what's to come.

Walking over, I sat down and felt my hair fall over my shoulders.

"It's time to introduce me to your son," I frowned, lowering my eyes to his desk, zoning out on the glossed wood. "He's twenty-five now and will be taking over soon, I know."

"I'm not passing you down."

I snapped my attention to his light honey eyes. "What? Am I-"

"I want you to stay mine. You're going to die with me, I'll make damn sure of it."

"The hell I will. I've been passed from Alpha to Alpha and put through hell for eighty years, there's no way in hell I'd ever die with one of you heartless mutts," I hissed through clenched teeth, abruptly shooting to my feet to glare down at him from across the desk.

He growled and jumped up, grabbing a fistful of my hair and slamming my face onto the wood. By the time I recovered and lifted my head, he rounded the desk and slammed me back down, using his opened hand to hold the side of my face against it.

He stood behind me, the hard bulge behind the zipper of his khaki jeans pushing into the sewn line running down the center of my dark-blue jean shorts.

I didn't say another word, knowing he was about to pull them down and stick it in for disobeying.

My body remained tense until there was a loud pounding on the door. Relief flooded me and he took his hand off my face, stepping away to return to his seat. I stood upright, peering down at him with a clenched jaw as he stared up at me, threatening me with his eyes.
