I stepped back, astounded by the news. However, she turned the monitor back and typed again, pulling something else up before turning it toward us. This time, I knew exactly what I was looking at.
Jamison's face faltered with pity and sadness, a suffocating depression entering the room. "Alpha... It's been hours, it would've taken effect by now. I'm so sorry."
I refused to accept it.
"No," I snapped, leaving the room with haste to get back to her. There was nothing that was more urgent in this moment. They didn't call out to stop me, not that it mattered. I wasn't going to stop either way. She needs me.
"Help!" Gia's abrupt scream echoed the halls.
My blood turned cold and my jog turned into a sprint. I made it to the room in a flash, rushing to her side. Gia stood opposite of me, hyperventilating. "She started moving, I thought she was waking up, then blood started coming out of her mouth a-a-and her skin started sweating and forming red lines!"
I analyzed her quickly. She was drenched in sweat, blood trailed down the corner's of her mouth, and as suspected, her veins were a dark red, spreading at a rapid pace through her body.
I've seen this before, just not this severe.
"What's happening to her?" Gia asked on the verge of tears.
"The stake was laced with vervain as a just in case it didn't make it in her heart. She's not waking up because she was poisoned, but I've seen these on her before. I just can't remember why." I held her hand, running my fingers across her cold skin over the veins in hopes the memory would come back to me.
"The only way to stay immortal is to drink from the mortal. You need blood."
She sank her fangs into my neck and pulled herself closer. Every inch of her pressed into me and I wrapped my arms around her. It wasn't long until she stopped herself, once again amazing me with her level of control. She looked down at her arms and I copied, seeing they had returned to normal.
"Draven!" Gia's worried voice pulled me back to reality.
I looked at her, my mate, then pulled the shirt over my head. My actions made her panicked features turn into disgusted shock. She watched silently as I used my shirt to clean her lips, bringing my other hand up and biting into my wrist. Once I tasted blood, I brought it to her mouth and let it drip, tossing the shirt at Gia with my free hand.
She squealed and swatted at it before it could land on her, averting its path straight into the trash bin next to her. I ignored her oddly squeamish behavior and stared down at Scarlett, worry stressing my face the longer she went unmoving.
This has to work. The vervain was just dehydrating her. If my guess is right and all vervain does is just dry them out, she should be fine. All she has to do is drink, if she drinks it should just pass. Yes, I've been wrong before, but I can't afford to be now.
Her eyes suddenly flung open and she grabbed my arm, bringing my open wound to her lips and sucking on it. Her eyelids fluttered closed soon after and she dug her nails into my skin. The redness in her veins fading out and I clenched my fist, fully preparing to give her every last drop with the anticipation she'd be too deprived and dazed to be able to restrain herself.
That's when she unexpectedly let go and rolled to face me, curling up and licking her blood coated lips. "Draven?" She whimpered. Her body trembled, still drenched in the sweat that likely didn't do anything except make the room feel colder.
