EPIPHANY ? newt

Screams all around me. That's all I could hear as I came to what felt like only seconds later - but in truth I had no idea how long it had been since I was knocked out. It could have been minutes, hours or even days. Feeling slowly crept back into my body, and I could tell I was in someone's arms. If I had been fully conscious - I would have felt nothing but embarrassment. But I didn't have it in me to fight whoever it was at the moment.

Another ear shattering bang made me flinch out of reflex. There was a strange whirring sound coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. And shouts. But what stood out to me most was the accented voice calling out my name - drowning out the rest of the world even if it was just for a few seconds. That was all I needed to pull myself out of the darkness.

"Sephora? Hey, can you hear me? Seph, please. Come on." The voice begged.

"Newt?" My voice was crackly, and I immediately burst into a fit of cough's due to speaking the one single word. I felt my body being lowered onto the hard ground, and I slowly forced my eyes open to see the worried face of the blonde boy staring at me. I couldn't help thinking how pretty his eyes were, and then all but slapped myself mentally - blaming the strange thoughts on my half conscious state.

"Hey... its alright. Take it easy..." He went on as I propped myself up against a rock, seeing fire everywhere around us.

"Newt - what happened? W-What's going on?" I asked, swallowing sharping and trying to stand up, only to get pushed back down by the blonde.

"It's WICKED, I think. They found us somehow - choppers everywhere in the sky right now. They're bombing the camp..." he stopped to quickly take a look behind where we were sitting, making sure we were still out of sight before continuing. "The others are all safe I'm pretty sure. I'm not sure where Tommy and Teresa went off too but they're out of the way at least. You, on the other hand almost bloody walked into the first explosion. I almost got burned trying to get you out - Seph you've gotta start taking better care of yourself."

I had half a mind to ask the boy how I was meant to do that when everything seemed like it wanted to kill me at every given moment - and how it was my fault for walking when a random bomb got dropped on my head, but I decided to leave the fighting for later. "Well, whatever it is, thanks." I breathed, trying to catch my breath as Newt helped me stand up.

"Anytime. You sure you can walk?" He asked.

I nodded. "Yeah, I don't think I really got hurt - just the shock. I'll be fine." Gunshots cut me off before I could go on and we both dived back behind the rock. "Is that WICKED!? They're on the ground?" I asked Newt, who was peeking out over the side of the rock.

"Apparently so - they've got those bloody shock things." Even with his lack of actual explanation, I understood exactly what he meant. A few seconds later, a group of people I recognised ran past us - Vince and the woman taking up the rare. As the latter turned back around to help someone who got shot, Vince threw a rifle-looking gun our way, intended for Newt. But before he could grab it, I snatched it out of the air, a small smile on my face at the comforting feeling of a ranged weapon in my hands once again.

I balanced myself against the rock again, positioning the gun just right and shooting one of the men who was aiming at the nice doctor, having her trapped down on the floor, straight in the head. I could feel Newt's shocked eyes on my back as I moved my stance slightly, taking another WICKED guard out before he could hurt any of my friends.

I was running on pure adrenaline and fear at this point, and I knew if I thought about what was happening a second too long the reality would come crashing down on me, so I just ignored it. Vince ushered us all towards a car, telling us to take cover behind its various parts as he quickly handed out more weapons and ammo.
